"This hotel is currently undergoing renovations. When we checked in, the room appeared clean, but after walking barefoot for about 20 minutes while unpacking, my feet were black with dirt and dust. I immediately notified the front desk, and after we took a short walk with our dog, the room had been cleaned.
The housekeeping staff was very friendly, but one day our room was not serviced. We were out for about five hours and returned around 3:00 p.m. to find it untouched. Since we planned to stay in for the rest of the day, I exchanged the towels and emptied the trash myself. I was told housekeeping prioritizes checkout rooms first, but I was surprised our room had not been serviced despite being vacant for several hours.
We did not use the pool or breakfast, but appreciated having a Keurig coffee maker, microwave, and small refrigerator in the room, which made it easy to bring our own breakfast and snacks.
The staff was consistently friendly and helpful, and I understand they are doing their best while finishing the remodel.
One frustration was that two of the room lights were motion-activated and turned off automatically. Twice, the bathroom light shut off while it was in use, which was inconvenient. I appreciate sustainability efforts, but automatic shutoffs in the bathroom were frustrating.
Overall, we had a pleasant stay. The hotel is dog-friendly, within walking distance of great restaurants and downtown Encinitas, and just a short distance from the beach."
