"We had a comfortable room with a patio overlooking the Douro River. Staff very friendly. The only negative from our point of view was the window from the shower into the room. The botton 2/3 rds are translucent and upper 1/3 clear. If a light is turned on in bathroom bedroom is lit up as well . Also the obvious privacy issues. Other than the the room , hotel , staff, bar and restaurant are great."

Please note that the only way to get there is by car and the most convenient option is to take advantage of the dinner offered. "Beautiful hotel in rural setting. Owner Miguel reserved our Acoura 516 bridge tickets as our international charge card was not accepted. The continental buffet breakfast was delicious and freshly served. We enjoyed the fireplace in the evening which Miguel started each evening. If we return to the area to hike we will definitely stay here again. It was impressively clean and staff (his family :) friendly. "

"We are a family of 5 with 3 kids under 12. We visited in March and it was very quiet/serene. Portovella has a beautiful view of the Douro. Riverside walk is just several steps down a hill. Photos don’t do it justice because it is so breathtaking in person. The comfort suite was the perfect size with 2 bathroom ensuites and a powder room. View from the suite was incredible. Just plan ahead if you’re staying on a Sunday as many restaurants were closed but we found a gem in Cinfaes - Sabores e...

"Friendly check-in staff - very helpful and courteous. unfortunately amenities let this down. Stayed for 2 nights (3 people) but we were only provided with 2 Dolce Gusto coffee pods for the entire duration and upon asking, were told that we would not be getting anymore. 2 sachets of sugar, no milk, tea etc. No iron in room so we asked for an iron and were told they did not have any. Breakfast was good, with the hot options being scrambled eggs and bacon (which ran out at 9am and was not...
