Located on the shores of Belfast Lough, just to the west of the city, Crawfordsburn Country Park is a beautiful and relaxing natural retreat. It’s home to two excellent beaches, spectacular scenery and some tranquil walking territory. Stroll through wooded glens and discover the park’s magical waterfall.
Crawfordsburn Country Park is also renowned for its wildlife, with hedgehogs, squirrels and badgers found in abundance here. Along the coastal edge of the park, if you’re really lucky, you might even see some seals frolicking in the surf.
The park is very popular with walkers, with some excellent trails to enjoy, notably the Glen Walk. Leave from the Crawfordsburn Country Park visitor centre and follow the trail south through the glen. Along the way you’ll be treated to views of Lanyon’s Viaduct, mature beech woods and woodland wildlife before returning to your starting point along the circular trail.
Many of the trails in the park have been specially designed for disabled access too. As a result, cycling is not allowed in the park except on vehicular roads but horse riding is admitted with a permit from the park centre.
Located half an hour from BelfastOpens in a new window city centre along the A2/Bangor Road, Crawfordsburn Country Park is a great place to escape to for a spot of peace and quiet and to come face to face with the natural world. With wildlife, walking and two beautiful beaches to enjoy, it’s a varied and relaxing day out.
