"Very good breakfast and a wide selection of food available all day. Spotlessly clean room and pleasant indoor and outdoor seating areas. Mattress was too soft but that's more of a personal preference."

The property is in the process of being updated but this didn't affect our stay except perhaps to see how well it appears to be going and I'm sure when this is finished they will have a hotel to be proud of. They have only owned this hotel for about 6 months and it is obvious they are making huge efforts to update...

"I had a wonderful stay at Powter Howe, a real treat. The room and bathroom were immaculately cleaned and well kept and the host is a gem who cooks the best breakfast which includes lovely free range eggs from her own hens. Waking up in the morning to the view over a beautiful garden beyond the lake to Skiddaw was an extra treat as each morning there was a new ever changing Lake District vista. I'll definitely be back! "Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice. All staff were very friendly making for a relaxing stay. Evening meal was was also very nice ( I had the pie both nights, highly recommended) wine a bit on pricy side but I enjoyed it all the same!"

"Our room, on the first floor, was excellent with lovely views. The food was of a high quality and the service was very good except on one of our three evenings when we were forgotten about and it took at least three complaints to get our meal started. On this occasion we were in the restaurant for about two hours and it took 45 minutes before we got our starter. This was a shame because otherwise everything was perfect."
