"The property is amazing! It’s small and quaint. We stayed in a bungalow which also offered needed privacy given the trees surrounding the unit. The food was excellent (the free breakfast was a nice additur) and the service attentive. They went out of their way to assist us with our needs. It is in the heart to Puerto Viejo’s downtown area so close to everything - restaurants, shopping, and La Playa Negra (black beach). The only negative was the cleaning lady’s use of water apparently drenched...

"We were genuinely sad we only had one night to stay at Banana Azul! Check in was quick and efficient and friendly. The fresh coconut was a lovely treat. The Howler Suite was charming and the view magical. The food in the restaurant was delicious. I highly recommend Banana Azul if you want an authentic Costa Rica experience that’s right on the Playa Negra beach. I’ll definitely be returning. "

"Lovely resort tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the busy town. You wouldn’t even know it’s there. Need to have coffee makers in the rooms along with access to communal water and ice. For the price, it was expensive."

"This was an amazing property with lovely, patient staff, and owners who had an answer for each of the (many, many) questions we had. The area is beautiful and safe, and the owners make it a point to make sure guests are getting what they want out of a vacation. Thank you for nudging us to bike to Punta Uva, Eric. "This property is a doorway to nature's paradise. Being set in jungle with an open living theme there is nothing to not love about Congo bongo. The cry of howler monkeys at 4am followed by the jungle waking up to the evening cry of the toucan nature is all around. "Staff was welcoming and very understanding about our flight cancellation. They called to check on us. Provided great info where to go to the beach. The house keeping crew made sure our place felt very welcoming. Bartender Jonathan was so awesome. Gave recommendations. Stephanie welcomed us the night we got in late. She checked on us to make sure we arrived safe in Costa Rica since AA canceled our flight. "
