"Firstly, the only reason I haven't given this hotel a terrible score is because of the staff. They were friendly, welcoming and did their best to help. Unfortunately, The Devonshire Arms was a real disappointment considering the £180 we paid for one night. I genuinely wouldn't recommend paying more than £100 per night. Within five minutes of our arrival, we were welcomed with fresh tea, and our room had complimentary cakes! "Having stayed a few times over the years we knew what to expect . As usual all the staff were helpful and cheerful. However we stayed in room 6 overnight on a very hot day and night so the room was very uncomfortably hot and made sleeping a problem. We did notice there was an air conditioning unit in the ceiling which was not operating and there was no way to control it. "A return trip for us and another good stay. It was very hot (no air conditioning) but a fan was provided and the current heat is unprecedented! The food in the pub is excellent and the breakfast was great too."
