"This hotel is superb - absolutely outstanding. Compared with the best in New York, Sydney, London and Paris, we would come back here first! All the staff were friendly, smiling, hard-working, smart as paint, professional and effective beyond anything we have previously experienced. They think outside the box: it hits you that they really enjoy their jobs, and they all speak excellent English. The dignified, low-profile period building beats its high-rise rivals hands down, with beautiful maintenance. The palm and pool courtyard has a clean, tropical elegance and is surprisingly quiet, thanks to Kolkata's adjacent large green space. The delicious food is world haute cuisine at normal hotel prices. We ate again and again in both the main and Thai restaurants. Breakfast was unbelievably good in choice and quality. The managers and waiters worked very hard to be attentive and helpful. The chefs came to the floor and talked at length about their dishes, which was really interesting. We have never experienced such quality and hard work with food served in our room, which was immaculate, clean, very comfortably furnished and with a sublime balcony view of the pool and palms like going back 100 years. The concierge worked extraordinarily hard for hours to make arrangements for us, where other hotels would have given up long before. Hotel transport was reasonably-priced, always punctual, friendly, well-driven and comfortable. The laundry came back pristine. "
