"This is the perfect hotel for first time visitors to Kathmandu or anyone wanting to stay in Thamel. The city/neighborhood can feel very chaotic at times, and Dalai-La is such a wonderful escape. "I loved staying in the quiet, spacious, clean rooms overlooking the courtyard. The hotel staff were exceptional--helpful in every way. And I thought the decor was beautiful. The food in the hotel restaurant was delicious--and the views from the rooftop were outstanding. I will return the next time I am in Kathmandu."

However, they have enough other lights that we were able to read without any effort. (I don't really like hotels that are mood-lit and never able to make bright enough to read anywhere).
