"This place is an inn from the 1920's that lets you literally step back in time. The whole place feels like you're in a time period movie set. It is amazing how well kept the place is, especially compared with the old buildings in the surrounding town of Balsam. Seriously though, if you want the finest amenities of a modern hotel, this is not the place for you. But if you want to experience a place that time forgot to destroy and enjoy a peace and slower pace of life for a while, this is a true gem. From the real door keys to the water radiator heating, the claw foot bath tub, and the creaking hardwood floors, this place just transports you to a time when every guest was special and the world was simpler. The water is even supplied from a mountain spring. For couples, this is the perfect romantic getaway. You can sit on the porch and watch the trees sway in the wind or read a book in the library. The Blue Ridge Parkway is only a mile away. And don't worry, while the amenities are basic compared to modern hotels, the bed was very comfortable and the linens were good quality. Better than a lot of modern places I've stayed. I really can't speak highly enough of the staff or the place itself. We really did enjoy it tremendously."

"PROS: Desk staff was courteous/ friendly; Convenient location to Sylva; Quiet; Plenty of outlets in room CONS: Dirty bathroom floor (had a lot of hair from previous occupants - uncertain if pet or human); Holes in linens on bed; Bed mattress was in terrible condition (far too soft, due to long-term use - on one side there was a permanent indentation, which made sleep difficult and uncomfortable) NO INFO: Breakfast, because we did not eat Overall I would not go again. The bathroom floor clearly had not been swept well or at all, which made us wonder how much had actually been cleaned. The mattress, though, was the absolute worst we have ever slept on. We are still stiff and sore after two nights of sleeping on it. There is no excuse for a mattress that is so worn down it has giant, deep indentations where someone is sleeping. Unacceptable."

"Taking a shower there was excellent the water pressure was strong and felt good. Bathroom a little small but overall I enjoyed my stay there. I book this place again and stay there "

"We were checked into a dirty room. Most of the floor had open latches and dirty rooms at 3:00 in the afternoon. We were then given another room that smelt like smoke, was not that clean. Had a cigarette burn in the sofa, a punched out screen like someone was just smoking in there. Breakfast was the same every day, a waffle machine, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal to make, or a few pastry bread items. Coffee was poor. We booked a queen bed, but seemed very small for my husband and me. It only had 3 pillows. There was a dog behind the property that barked 2/3 nights. The floor smelt like pot. Pool was still covered. Would try another property in the future. "
