"Good location"

"The property is beautiful, private balcony with private onsen were AMAZING! Room was comfortable and well laid out. That part is definitely a 5*. The staff were friendly, mostly helpful, but not so much if you got there early. They did take your stuff, but didn't help with directions on how to catch the bus or where to walk. The food is where this property lost a star (I'd give it a 3, maybe upper 2). The dining area is beautiful and peaceful. The actual food needs some work. The first course was set out 10 min early and was meant to be warm, we arrived on time and it was cold. They proceeded to bring out each course in rapid succession and we had a ton of food in front of us. Not a proper kaiseki meal. As we dug in the food was ok, how they managed dry fish in soup is beyond me. I'd stay here again - but would skip the food and enjoy it in town instead. One other note - if you stay here know its at least 30min away from the lake and the majority of the Hakone Loop. So I'd suggest accounting for that in your time planning. "

"This place is over 100 years old and because of that, it has its quirks but I think it adds character to the ryokan experience. The staff were so welcoming and friendly. The kaiseki dinner was delicious but it was a lot of food. We had to request to serve us one less meal so we didn’t waste too much. The service and ambiance was great. The onsens were a perfect touch to end our days. We would definitely stay here again!"

"We loved our stay here, the bath on the balcony was so relaxing and peaceful and there are both public and private onsens that can be used when available. My husband and I used the private onsens and enjoyed the free ice cream and drinks also available at all times. The kaiseki breakfast and dinners were a great experience and a good opportunity to try traditional Japanese cuisine. The staff are very kind, welcoming and friendly and it’s about a 10 minute walk from Hakone-Yumoto station."

"A convenient place to stay, with easy access to the train station. Amenities were great and having two showers/toilets was a bonus! The host was very responsive and easy to contact throughout our stay. One thing to be aware of is that sound travels easily between connected villas (East 101 and 102). During our five‑night stay in 102, we experienced two nights where the guests in 101 were very loud - running up and down the stairs, moving chairs, singing, cheering and stomping during a sports game, talking and laughing loudly… from around 1am until nearly 4am. The guests appeared to be a group of young local lads who spoke Japanese - they were not foreigners/tourists. They were obviously enjoying themselves and having a good time. Unfortunately, the noise and movement kept us awake those two nights/mornings. Because of this, it’s worth noting that sound insulation isn’t great. There’s not much the hosts can do about it. Your experience will depend on who your neighbours are. If you have considerate guests next door—or no one at all—you’ll likely have a peaceful stay. Additionally, the building sits beside a road with a steady stream of traffic coming down the hillside day and night. The sound of cars passing is noticeable, especially on the lower floor. This didn’t bother us but those sensitive to traffic noise may find it disruptive. Overall, it was a reasonably good stay with plenty of conveniences, as long as you’re mindful of the potential noise factors."

"This is by far the best hotel experience we've had in Japan. The Japanese style room was large and well appointed, with thick foam futons. The tatami was clean and in good condition. We also enjoyed the fully stocked minibar. Onsen facilities are clean and well managed. You can enjoy the sound of the nearby river as you bathe. The standout feature however is the food. It was fantastic throughout our stay, but on our last night we were given an increible sashimi banquet and waigu steak! Our servers Fifi-san and Yoko-san took very good care of us during our stay. Thank you for making it a wonderful experience. I would recommend Suimeisou to anybody looking for a Ryokan in Hakone."
