"This is the second time we have stopped here. Last time, great - no problems, but this time was awful. We arrived very late (06:00) due to delays. Check-in was fine as the day shift had started work! When we opened the room door, we were greeted with the most awful reek of cigarettes. The room just stank☹️. Obviously the hotel staff were aware of the problem as the window was left wide open. I can only imagine how much worse it would have been if we had checked in the day before and the window...

"My wife and myself stayed overnight on the way to skiing in the Alps. and the location was perfect at just about half way from London. Just south of the main town of Chaumont the Hostellerie is in a beautiful little village just off the main road. I would strongly suggest getting there early enough to eat in the resturant; partly because the food was excellent and partly because there is nowhere else nearby without getting back in the car. Ancient factory still as it was when built in 1903, using its own water driven machines and electricity generator. A tour was included during our stay. Although somewhat isolated, access to restaurant services available within 10 to 15 minutes by driving to the external road, outside the boundary fence, of a motorway service area and passing through a pedestrian gate to shop as required. "Just a fantastic find off the beaten track, in an idiotic location. Hotel neat and quirky, with great size, comfortable room opening out into the scenic grounds. Restaurant first class, wide choice of dishes, every thing perfect. Friendly staff who were helpful and welcoming. Would highly recommend fora relaxing break or over night stay on the way south. Also good value and quality."

"The receptionist was friendly warm and welcoming. The room was spotlessly clean as was the bathroom and the best shower of our whole trip. I only wish there had been a kettle in the room to make a coffee in the morning. The food in the restaurant area, next door was wonderful. Again, the receptionist helped out in the breakfast room which became a little hectic but was nevertheless all that we needed. A very pleasant stay and I would happily stay there again. "

Dreadful reek of cigarettes in the room ☹️
"This is the second time we have stopped here. Last time, great - no problems, but this time was awful. We arrived very late (06:00) due to delays. Check-in was fine as the day shift had started work! When we opened the room door, we were greeted with the most awful reek of cigarettes. The room just stank☹️. Obviously the hotel staff were aware of the problem as the window was left wide open. I can only imagine how much worse it would have been if we had checked in the day before and the window had not been open for many hours……. Breakfast was OK, but not as good as last time, with very little food available- and no croissants! The staff were friendly and welcoming, but we could have done without the “filthy old ashtray” atmosphere in the room. We had just travelled 400 miles and taken a ferry - all we wanted was a sleep in a clean and fresh smelling room!"
