"Everything about the Hotel was excellent. Lovely, friendly, very helpful staff, compty bed and room, clean and with coffee/tea/biscuits provided. Breakfast was first class, trout with poached eggs were perfect, Trish went above and beyond to help us with my disabled husband, she even collected our cases from our room and a staff member took and loaded them into our car. Would certainly stay here again."

"Check-in/out staff, bar, restaurant & pool facilities all great. Staff good. Only issue was that my bath tub wasn't clean & there wasn't any detailed info about using the facilities."

"We love the Gainsborough Hotel and it's somewhere we've visited on more than one occasion, due to the mineral pools that are part of the hotel's amenities. However, for the first time in our many visits, we were asked to pay an extra amount (£70 per person for 2 hours) to use the pools outside the guests' complimentary hours of 8-10am and 7-9pm. For four people, this would have added an extra £280 to our bill - rather a lot when the hotel rooms are already fairly expensive. This relatively new policy did take the shine off visiting the hotel, particularly as the pools were really busy in the complimentary evening slot. It's a shame that the hotel have decided to try and make more money out of guests in this way and would make us think twice about booking the hotel again."

"We knew that the hotel was a way outside of Bath (it is in the next county, Wiltshire) and that roads in England a often narrow - but the drive in and out of Bath was more fraught than we expected with strictly single lane roads, along which people parked and drove at sped, and road works, and a bus which attempted to pass us and scraped the side of the hire car. Sometimes, there was no parking in either of the hotel carparks. The hotel staff member who checked us in was unaware of the Jane Austen festival (the reason we were in Bath). We did like the book box near the entrance to hotel access road (a converted red phone box) and the Hop Pole Inn was a welcome alternative to eating/drinking in the hotel (which on weekends was full of wedding guests)."

"Really wonderful staff, very helpful. Fantastic location, a stones throw from the Abby and exactly a 2 block walk straight down to the train station. The room was quite, spacious and nice, good shower and large bathroom. The breakfast is not a full buffet (mostly breads and pastries) but a fresh cooked hot breakfast, we had the eggs benedict which were excellent. Hard to imagine a nicer, better situated hotel in Bath"

"We found the interior design to be inventive and beautiful. The hotel is a joining of 12 (?) different houses and getting around can feel like one is in a maze. As an older couple, they gave us a room we could get to, avoiding stairs and gave us a great view. The modern bathroom had to be a bit cramped to accommodate the many mergings of houses. We would have liked to have had tissues and more hanging space in the room. The bed was way too hard for one of us. They brought up a duvet to top the sheets, which helped. The breakfast was fabulous. The Beau restaurant served good food with accommodations for a wide variety of dietary needs. The staff (all of them) went above and beyond to serve us with cheery attitudes. The hotel is well located. We highly recommend the hotel if a 4 star is a good option for you."
