"This place has gone downhill. I’ve stayed here many times over 30 years. There are no more water views due to nearby construction. The staff were like annoying zombies. One person actually tried to intimidate me. No hot water . Practically empty. It’s a decent budget hotel. Don’t pay more than 70 bucks. I will never stay here again."

"⭐☆☆☆☆ 1 Star – Extremely Disappointing Experience for a Wheelchair User I rarely leave negative reviews, but our stay at The Modern Sarasota was filled with issues from the moment we arrived. To make matters even more disappointing, this was not just a random weekend stay. We stayed from Friday through Sunday as part of my birthday weekend, a surprise getaway planned by my wife. Instead of spending the weekend relaxing and celebrating, we found ourselves dealing with one issue after another. Despite all the problems we experienced, we never once received a visit, phone call, or even a simple acknowledgment from management. For a hotel that claims to value its guests, we certainly didn’t feel like valued customers. If you are a wheelchair user, have mobility challenges, or require accessible accommodations, I would strongly recommend another property altogether."

"The young man that I spoke to prior to check-in at the office was very polite and friendly. The hotel room was definitely no frills (we knew that when we booked it, so no problem) and seemed reasonably clean, except for the bathtub/shower. There were several black hairs on the drain plate and the tub just didn't look clean overall. That grossed me out immediately. We didn't complain but wouldn't recommend it or stay there again because of it."

"There is no front desk staff, there is a kiosk that looks like Zelda, the fortune teller at carnivals. We had to unplug the fridge because it was so loud. The water coming out of the taps was brown until it ran for a few minutes, hot and cold water both. The tub drained so slowly a shower ended in ankle deep water. The room, itself, was clean enough; we didn't ask for cleaning during our 3-night stay. It's off-season so there were only a few other guests that we never heard. Didn't use the pool. Breakfast in minimal. Beds and were very comfortable. AC was good. The Sunnyside Cafe is a few steps away and DELICIOUS for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!"
