The room was tiny, but lovely & clean. The window was fantastic, so large, looking into a courtyard so it was very quiet. The bed was a bunk, my daughter & I shared the room. There could have been more clearance between the bottom & top bunk, it was very low. Overall, I would recommend & stay again if overnighting in Edinburgh.

Very pleasantly surprised. We had a private room and a shared bathroom but had tons of privacy, felt like it was just us. The location is perfect and the facilities are very clean. The staff of very friendly and there are a few deals for restaurants and pubs that are offered. Definitely would return and recommend

Great location
The hostel is in a great location, very central for old tour with all the tours. The rooms were clean, with a well maintained shared kitchen facility. A note to those booking a twin room, this is often a bunk bed. Whilst I was aware this may be the case and was ok with it, some people would not be happy.

Lovely stay, will stay again!!
I had a lovely stay at this Hostel. It's in the perfect location. And Mercedes at the front desk was very helpful and accommodating. They honored my request to get a room on the top floor and I had a quiet night's sleep. The shared bathroom was very clean. The lounge are was nice to relax and eat some food and people watch out the window. They also held my luggage while I went exploring. I will be back.

I was in their flat on the royal mile, i had a private bedroom with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities, given its slap bang city centre you could do much worse.

Excellent location it is in the heart of Edinburgh city centre. The room is a bit small but the share toliet is large and clean. A good experience to stay here.

Everyone was friendly and my room was clean. Located in the middle of everything. I would stay here again. Just a note for people with trouble walking you may have a lot of stairs.

Great loxation.
Great location, close to the Train Station and Royal Road. A 5 or so minute walk to Princes street. Plenty of eating options neraby. Private room was large, shared bathroom was shared between a small amount of rooms. The folks working there were friendly and helpful. Full disclosure, it's an old building and feels old inside. A lot of quirks, but for the cost I thought it was good value.

Sensational location! I could not have been more satisfied. You walk out onto the most photographed street in Edinburgh, the Royal mile and walking distance to the newer " city" and the gardens. Excellent room with convenient access to common area. Kitchen well stocked Great value- for the convenience alone.

Stay was ok..very basic
Very basic. Very rocky bunk bed (booked as double bed) and could not open the window. So with a 3 night stay the air get quite stale. You have to be hit with dwarfism to stand under the shower and you have to be quick otherwise you get scolding hot water or ice cold.

The booking was for a twin room with bunk bed - which is what was provided. We have investigated the issues raised, but, due to the historic nature of our buildings, our options are limited. We are working on viable solutions. We hope to see you again in the future!

I stayed here for one night to get the "hostel experience" while in Edinburgh. This was just a two-day excursion from London during my study abroad. Edinburgh: brilliant. Absolute favorite place. Edinburgh Backpackers was fantastic and honestly, this is probably not a true hostel experience. It was quiet. I had a private small room with a shared bathroom with one other room. The bunkbed was comfy (better than the expensive student housing I've been staying in). There is a TUB in case you want a bath. The check-in person was very friendly and gave me directions and instructions. I highly recommended staying here. If you are with one other person, a bunk bed private room is great and affordable.

Fantastic place, great people, spotlessly clean.
As hostels go, this was an incredible place. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. The desk staff were so helpful and very nice. It was in a perfect location - so close to Waverley train station, Princes Street, the Royal Mile the castle and Grassmarket are all within easy walking distance. I did not use the kitchen facilities at all so I can't review that. In short, if you're on a budget, this is an awesome place. I will have to be honest and say that at age 62, I'm probably a little past the age for staying here again. I found hauling my suitcase upstairs difficult (not the fault of the EBH at all). I think I've become a bit of a princess, so sharing a bathroom wasn't my favorite (I knew this was happening and they have other options including ensuite so again, not the fault of EBH.) Originally I was supposed to travel with my niece to show her that travel doesn't have to be beyond expensive, but she had to cancel - too late for me to change my reservation. If you're up for being in a hostel, this is the best.

Definitely need to take photo ID although it says you may be asked for it. They weren't going to let us stay even though we paid £140 for one night in twin room which turned out to be bunk beds. Showers not clean. Light in room wouldn't stay on and flickered all the time but worked ok in morning for some strange reason. Stayed in hotel's for less with ensuite bathroom and breakfast. Prison cell's are probably bigger. Definitely would not stay again

Amazing value for money, they provided tea, coffee sugar and towels for no extra cost. The building was very secure and quiet. All staff we met where friendly and helpful cannot recommend this place enough

This place is a fantastic deal for the no nonsense or budget (or really any) traveler who's ok with shared bathroom facilities. It has private rooms available as well! The location is close to Waverly Station and is within walking distance of all major sites. The staff are friendly and helpful. I can't recommend it enough.

We were amazed with the room and the apartment-like that we stayed in. Everything looked new, it was very clean and very silent. We stayed in a twin room and would definitely book it again.
