4. Ah'Lo Carmelo Hostel Boutique
Ah'Lo Carmelo Hostel BoutiqueCarmelo
8.6 out of 10, Excellent, (22 reviews)
"Staff were friendly and keen to help. Room was bright, clean, bed was comfy, air-conditioning worked. Location was pretty good for Carmelo proper - just off the centre, with easy access for everything from bus station to some of the best food in town. Not so good was the limited front-desk hours which meant having to plan to arrive within a two-hour window. Also the bikes for rent could be in better shape (and not all built for six-foot-tall riders)."

5. Alma Histórica Boutique Hotel
Alma Histórica Boutique HotelCiudad Vieja
9.6 out of 10, Exceptional, (318 reviews)
"This hotel was beautiful! Everyone who works there was extremely helpful and friendly. The room was clean, comfortable, and very quiet. Breakfast was delicious and made special by the surroundings of the dining room.
We could easily walk to shops, markets, and the ferry port, but after one outing decided it's probably best to stay in after dark."

"Gorgeous place, the landscape and property were beautiful and well maintained. Room was very comfortable and clean. My only complaint is that the staff didn’t speak English and we were often neglected by the waitress in the restaurant. "

Hotel Alquimista Montevideo
Hotel Alquimista MontevideoCarrasco
10/10 Excellent
Spent 5 nights as part of a combined ‘Buenos Aires/Montevideo’ trip. Always look for small stylish hotels and the Alquimista is absolutely spot on. Beautiful 1920s building, lovely room, freshly-cooked breakfast, and just an all-round wonderful ‘feel’ staying here. The real highlight though was the welcoming hospitality and local advice from Carolina and Mark - do ask how to find Jueves 5 for a post-city-sightseeing drink if you want to sample an out-of-the-way bar which tourists rarely find....
