The bed was also too short and uncomfortable, making it impossible to rest properly. Because of these issues, we decided to leave after only one hour and could not continue our stay. "The best thing for me about the Palmer House Hotel is its location just steps from the Red Line El Monroe station and only a block from the Blue Line Monroe station that goes to O'Hare Airport. It is one block from a large, convenient Target, a spectacular Macy's in the old Marshall Fields building and a block from the Art Institute Museum and another block to Milleneum Park (with the "bean" sculpture). Great theaters, restaurants and sites right out the door, and a Starbucks and easy menu order/pickup store with all kinds of quick pickup options all located just steps out of the elevator. This is a convenient, lovely, interesting hotel that is my first choice when staying in the "loop" in downtown Chicago. You don't really have to even leave the hotel to have an interesting array of things to see (the ceiling in the main dining/lobby area is stunning. And, the spa is great."
