Army Museum

On the way into Musée de l'Armée you can get a nice view of the Eiffel Tower. It was actually our first official view of the French icon upon arrival in Paris.

The Musée de l'Armée was definitely worth seeing. So many artifacts of war! One of my personal favorites was the pistol-sword for King Louis XIII. Will you be shot? Will you be stabbed? Don't wait around to find out!

The Musée de l'Armée (Army Museum) is a national military museum of France located at Les Invalides in the 7th arrondissement of Paris.

The Musée de l'Armée was created in 1905 with the merger of the Musée d'Artillerie and the Musée Historique de l'Armée. The museum's seven main spaces and departments contain collections that span the period from antiquity through the 20th century.
The Main Courtyard is the center of the Hôtel National des Invalides and displays a large part of the artillery collections, gathered during the French Revolution. The collection traces 200 years of the history of French field artillery and enables visitors to discover how the equipment was manufactured, its role and the history of great French artillerymen.
The Dôme des Invalides, which contains Napoleon I's tomb, is the emblem of the Hôtel National des Invalides and an unmissable monument in the Parisian landscape.
Excellent displays for an afternoon trip.
Neat place to walk around and learn about the history of the area.
Care to guess which military unit wore this armband? The camouflage unit!

The Army Museum covers a large swatch of French history with an impressive collection of artifacts and displays. We spent most of our time within the WWII collection, but it was still overwhelming. This is not the place for an overview of the war, but instead somewhere to learn about individual battles, personalities, and equipment. Go in with a plan and time limit.
