"A lovely grand hotel that is a little past its prime. The room in the Sidings is connect to the main hotel by a long corridor with a weird smell. Thankfully the room was clean and did not smell. The bathtub was chipped with exposed black enamel. Bed was comfortable but the pillows were a little hard. I cannot comment on the food as we did not eat in the hotel or use the gym / pool. The location is perfect right next to the train station with an exit directly to the station. No train noice so that was a plus. Everything in town was walking distance and if you really don't want to walk there are lots of busses and cabs next door at the station."

"Its cold, the hallways are warm, then the rooms are cold. Great size bed, brilliant size room, cleanliness good. Great location, 5 mins from the shambles, car park is expensive but that's not the hotels fault. Breakfast is like feeding the 5000, buffet style, too many people for me. Not a bad selection, and did cater for my coeliac wife who needs gluten Free., they provided gluten Free cornflakes and bread."

Mercure York Fairfield Manor Hotel

"Only stayed briefly overnight and didn’t eat there so can’t comment on the food or other facilities. Pros - very clean, quick check in/out from friendly staff, room was spacious and bed was comfy. However, it’s very tired and dated - floorboards squeaked, and the fittings/furniture etc is overdue a refresh and refurbishment. Didn't really detract from an overnight stay, but did mean the hotel lacked a luxury feel."
