"We absolutely loved our time at Amalu Monteverde. We stayed in the Black Haus and it was superb. The view is stunning and the property is designed to make the most of it with wall to ceiling windows and a great sun deck. We really enjoyed the hot tub (not normally our thing) while the sun was setting and knew that this was one of those places we would never forget and for all the right reasons. The Blackhaus is really well designed with a small but useful kitchen area, a lovely bathroom with a double shower, a really comfortable bed with a bath next to it which we loved, and a wood burner which we really appreciated because it gets cooler in the evening because of the altitude and geography. We also really appreciated the welcome gifts that made everything even more special. If you have the chance to stay here, and are wondering if it really could be that good, please don’t hesitate. It is better than the pictures and an absolute WOW place to stay! I would definitely recommend a 4x4 when visiting the area and the best activity we did was La Tigre Waterfalls which we thought were fantastic (but we love hikes and nature and are not adrenaline junkies!). Amalu will now definitely have a place in our top 10 places we have ever stayed (and quite possibly top 5 or even number 1!!)."

"I chose this hotel due to it's proximity to the Liberia airport. I wasn't finished acquiring my rental car until 1700 hrs and did not want to drive 3 or 4 more hours to La Fortuna or Monteverde. It served as my base for Lake Arenal Catamaran tour, Viento Fresco waterfall hike (which is changing it's name to Manakin Waterfall Nature Reserve), and a day at Treetopia hanginging bridges in Monteverde. The hot tub was a great way to relax after a days adventure. You could even pull off a Scandanavian type spa treatment alternating the hot tub and the cool pool for a hot/cold treatment. There are water activities, such as windsurfing and kayaking nearby on Lake Arenal. The hotel also has a beautiful view of Lake Arenal and has a 1 km hiking trail on it's property. The gardens around the hotel are amazing. The brewery was the first brewery in Costa Rica. The owner JP and his son are the brewers and JP has achieved Master of Brewing Art. He will gladly give you a tour of the brewery. Allison and Jose were very friendly bartenders, both speaking good english. Allison makes an excellent spicy margarita. All the staff were excellent,the rooms were clean, and the bed was very comfortable. All in all it was a very good stay."

"Suite (2 bedroom) was very large for the price with a nice patio with a great sunset view and screened in porch. Well appointed, clean and conveniently located near all of the Monteverde attractions and restaurants. "

"Macadamia is perfectly located to enjoy the area’s parks and activities. Pretty much everything you’d want to visit is only about five or ten minutes away. Door to door, downtown Santa Elena is only 4 minutes. The house was very comfortable and stocked with everything we needed. Two separate bedrooms were great for our family of four. Our kids loved the trampoline, and I loved sitting out on the comfy chair in front of the house reading early in the morning and watching the birds. Guillermo welcomed us warmly to our house. A bit of a language barrier on arrival, but we figured everything out between my mediocre Spanish and translation tools. Note: call/text ahead if your arrival to get the code to the gate at the end of the driveway as well as the separate code to your villa. The property was well landscaped, very secure and quiet. "
