"They are in the process of renovating and initially I was placed in a king bed pool side room which had not been renovated. It was terrible and reminded me of a tiny cheap nasty motel room which had numerous issues. As a result they upgraded me free of charge to a renovated room which was like night and day in comparison and the reason I’m giving the hotel 5 stars. The staff were friendly and welcoming. "We enjoyed having the pool and the beach a few steps away from our room. That was particularly nice given we traveled with our 4 year old daughter. The towel service and outdoor showers also made the beach experience pleasant. I noticed many resorts in Kaanapali are in front of the beach but the beach has little or no sand. "Room had a lovely ocean view. Service was superb. The lobby and grounds are magnificent! Great food. This is the best hotel in Maui now. "
