We visited here in 2019 and the staff was so amazing that they set the tone for our whole trip. Peter was so helpful and seemed to always be there working. We visited again September 2023 and were sad to miss Peter but his staff was still excellent.

Tired and needs a refit. Smells from the kitchen go up to the rooms and there is a lingering smell of stale smoke. This is a place that is a pub first and hotel second.

Outside is a little worn, but inside is clean and updated. Not handicap friendly. Too many stairs and they were narrow and steep. Bedding was great, room amenities were ok (no blow dryer provided). Rooms are upstairs and a little stuffy with no a/c. Dining was a little slow but good. Great staff and very friendly.

The proprieter, Peter, was astonishingly helpful. We arrived in the middle of a Saturday afternoon with a few hours to spare, and he volunteered (we would never have thought to ask) to drive us to the Culloden Battlefield and also to Clava Cairn (the stones that inspired the time travel in Outlander). We did not even know about the stones being that close. He stayed with us at the stones, dropped us off at the battlefield and told us how to use the bus to get back to Inverness. This part of our journey has become the highlight of our trip to Scotland, all because of Peter's generosity. The hotel itself is not 5-star (because of amenities, not friendliness of staff), but it is clean and the location is amazing. It was far more than we were expecting. If you are looking for an authentic Scottish experience near some interesting and important sites, I highly recommend the Smithton Hotel! (easy to get to from inverness either by car or by public transport).

Visit to Culloden
Was put in an attic room. If you are any taller than 5' 10" beware. Coffee in room was undrinkable. Small bathroom. Breakfast selection very poor. Continental was just toast. Nothing else. Fruit selection was chopped up watermelon.

Like an unfunny episode of Faulty Towers. Rooms are not spotless, toilet doesn't flush properly. Food was tasteless, bland and below mediocre. Tasted and looked like food came from a can. Staff were clueless and lifeless. Could not get out here fast enough. Will not recommend this place. Over priced.

Excellent stay
Great wee place, I was up early and away both mornings so sadly didn’t have breakfast but both mornings the team went out of their way to offer to make something for the road. Great service and extremely friendly.

Der Aufenthalt hat uns sehr gefallen. Alle sind sehr, sehr nett und die Zimmer sauber. Das Hotel liegt ruhig, ist allerdings selbst etwas hellhörig. Das Essen war sowohl am Frühstücksbuffet, als auch abends immer sehr lecker. Wir werden gerne wieder hin gehen!

We stayed for 2 nights and the hotel exceeded my expectations (for the money I paid). If you have a transport of your own and don't need to be in the centre of the city, this is a good option to consider.

No compassion or understanding.
The event in which myself and party were meant to attend was cancelled due to the Queens passing. Contacting the hotel at 9am the day before our stay I let them know we would no longer be able to stay. Given the circumstances were out with my control I was horrified that the hotel insisted on me paying %100, the full £582.80.

10 minutes from airport and about 10 minutes to the Battlefield. Nice staff stayed a bit late for us due to our flight being delayed. Breakfast was made to order as well.

No staff around to let us in early evening.had to go into the bar to find someone.no air conditioning very dark and empty,three bunk beds for our son and daughter inlaw and our 12 yr old grandaughter.After spending over £100 pound per room we expected better.All other hotels we stayed in on our holiday were wonderfull.Would not recomend this hotel.

A bit old fashioned but clean and comfortable. I cannot say enough good things about the staff, they were so friendly. Also helpful, they lent us a torch so we could do night time exploration of Clava Cairns and Culloden Battlefield. Also made good suggestions and helped us with laundry (2 of 4 of us didn't get our luggage until the 6th day of our trip). There's a grocery nearby and it's much more relaxed than Inverness and so close! Oh and the food was good! Best stay!

Only problem is it’s busy noisy bar and events. I would stay again but ask specifically for a quiet room. We had to ask to be moved which fortunately they were able to do.

The walls are paper thin and I heard coughing and snoring all night from the rooms on both sides of me. There was also a mildew and moldy smell to the rooms that made it difficult to sleep. Even with the windows open all night. The upside was the staff was great and very helpful.
