The Sofia Hotel
8/10 Good
"A solid downtown base with a few caveats
The Sofia does what it needs to do and does it well. The room was clean, the staff was genuinely friendly, and the location is hard to beat — right in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, walking distance from restaurants, and a city bus stop.
That said, a couple of things worth knowing before you book: the carpets and hallways carry a musty smell that reminds you this is an older building. And my room had no operable window — sealed shut, no fresh air whatsoever. For some that won’t matter, but if you like to crack a window at night, this isn’t the place.
Overall, good value for the location. Just go in with the right expectations and you’ll be happy."
"Very aged building, everything is outdated, room has a bit moldy smell. Equipment is not well maintained as well. If you just need a place to stay then that is fine."
Best Western Inn & Suites San Diego – Zoo/SeaWorld Area
4/10 Poor
"Breakfast was terrible! Beds are wore down pretty bad rooms are very old, the only good things about this place is the pool and hot tub and our housekeeper did a good job with our room"
"it is a beautiful hotel but it is essentially a conference hotel now that’s great if u are on conference but it doesn’t cater to the individual traveler valet parking was excellent location is superb"
"Everything was as expected. It's a great place to stay with an amazing view and location is convenient to travel across the bay to attend the ballgames. We havd stayed here multiple times over the years and it's a great time every stay we have had. Personally, feel it's the best place to stay"
"This was my second stay at this hotel, and the only reason why I stayed here was because the close proximity to the harbor and the event I was supposed to be attending for 2 consecutive days. I was first checked into a room and I noticed the air conditioning wasn't working, and once I complained, they transferred me to another room and since it was already late at night, I did not notice until early morning next day that the plumbing of the second rom also wasn't working. neither the hand sink or the bathtub was draining. Once I called the reception to complain again, I was instead of receiving a comforting response, I got a response from the receptionist saying - what would you like us to do. Then finally they sent a plumber and got that issue resolved, and later I decided to get some ice from the cooler, and noticed the ice machine was also not working I had to go to another floor to get ice. At checkout once I reiterated my whole stay experience I was told the hotel offered me only $50 of credit for the whole headache and time wastage I had to go through. Overall my first stay was pleasant, but this second one. Definitely will be staying somewhere else next time. Although one plus point I would give is the hotel has balcony facing the bay view, which a lot of hotel don't offer, which gives Wyndham a upper hand. The hotel needs through inspection of all rooms, if not am upgrade. "
