"Such a special hotel in one of the most gorgeous cities we’ve ever visited. Staying in a hotel built right into the cave made our whole experience in Matera feel even more incredible. Everything about it was breathtaking and unique, and it was definitely worth the stay. The spa in the basement was also such a nice bonus — especially after walking up and down all those hills! We absolutely loved our stay and would definitely come back."

"Sextantio Le Grotte della Civita was one of the most memorable stays of our entire Italy trip. Staying in a beautifully restored historic cave in the heart of Matera was such a unique and magical experience. Our room was beautiful, spacious, and full of character, while still being very comfortable. The staff were absolutely wonderful—warm, friendly, attentive, and always happy to help. Breakfast was also fantastic, with fresh local food and excellent service. The location in the Sassi is incredible, and simply stepping outside the hotel feels like stepping back in time. More than just a hotel, Sextantio really feels like part of the Matera experience. We absolutely loved our stay and would highly recommend it!"

"Torre Fiore Hotel Masseria was absolutely incredible from start to finish. Everything about our stay felt special. The staff were warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive, making us feel completely at home from the moment we arrived. The food was outstanding, beautifully prepared, fresh, and one of the highlights of our stay. The property itself is stunning. The grounds are peaceful, beautifully maintained, and full of charm. Every little detail added to the experience and made the hotel feel like such a special place to relax and enjoy Italy. Honestly, everything was perfect. The beautiful setting, wonderful food, exceptional staff, and overall atmosphere exceeded our expectations. We loved our stay and would return without hesitation. "We found the property to be immaculately clean! Rooms and common areas impressed us all with the cleanliness and I personally am not easily impressed. We stayed all inclusive. Not only did we find the quality of food very good, but the selection was also great. Didn't know wine was included which was a bonus, being from Italian origin, that doesn't surprise me....we are used to having wine with our meals!! If I had to leave a critique, it would be that the T.V. was too small for our room. Three of us shared a very generous sized room. The mattresses were comfortable enough ... but maybe should soon be replaced. Overall, our group of 5 give it a 5/5 rating! I would definitely recommend and/or return!!"

"Great property in an outstanding location near an entrance to the Matera Sassi. Clean rooms and comfortable beds were nice to stay in. In addition to the Sassi access and hotel cleanliness, the breakfast was truly outstanding. It featured a variety of coffees, pastries and fruits along with other breakfast items in an attractive, large dining room. The desk is attended at all times and the building is secured at night. My only mild criticism is better information on parking prior to check in would be a plus. A secured garage is under the hotel and available for $20 Euro per might. I'd stay there again, both for the hotel and the ancient attractions of Matera."

"The hotel is beautiful and in a great location but has some odd issues that make me think the management is skimping on maintenance. We noticed that the phone was not connected. When we brought it up to the front desk we were told that they were aware of the problem and they gave us the external number to the hotel so that we could call on our cell. No attempt was made to fix the phone. There was a leak from the bathroom sink. After we told them of the problem they did nothing about it. That evening we called about it. It took a while to explain the problem because the person that answered barely spoke English. They did send someone to mop up the floor but no one ever came to repair it. When we used one of the light switches it blew the circuit breakers in the room and also caused rooms near us to lose power too. They got it to work but that night at 1:00 AM it happened again. 8 of their staff showed up to fix it but no one was able too. Power was restored to the other rooms but never to ours. We moved to another room for the rest of our stay. We thought all this to be comical but none of the problems had been repaired when we left 2 days later. These things shouldn’t happen at a 5 star hotel."

"Amazing stay! Wonderful pool, fresh and hearty breakfast. Franco is a gem, gave me the best recommendations nearby. Cutest kittens on the property and the sweetest and best trained German Shepard. It is somewhat rural, so the road going up is a little bumpy but totally manageable if you go slow. Definitely recommend."

"A genuinely beautiful, carefully restored 19th-century masseria, thick stone walls, lovely surroundings, and a proper pool we appreciated every day in the August heat. Our room was clean and comfortable throughout. Arrival didn't go entirely to plan: we missed the request to confirm our arrival time 48 hours ahead, and as this is a small property with no 24-hour reception, we turned up to an empty building. The owner couldn't have been kinder about it though, he left our key outside for us. On our last night he cooked a regional tasting menu using a local wine, lovely, personal touch, even if portions ran small for hungrier guests in our group. Our one genuine complaint: our confirmation stated a noon checkout, but on the day we were asked to leave by 10am, and told we'd need to pay extra to keep using the pool once we were "no longer guests." That gap between what we'd booked and what was enforced left a slightly sour note on an otherwise very warm stay. Overall: a beautiful, characterful place with a genuinely kind host, just be clear on check in/check out expectations before you arrive."
