Friendly and accommodating welcome, nicely decorated rooms, modern bathroom, good coffee & tea corner on the floor. Town centre and abbey within walking distance. Would definitely return.
Lovely stay a last weekend Friday and Saturday. Pleasant helpful but unobtrusive hostess Tracy, comfortable room, good shower easy access. Small number of rooms above restaurant Didn’t eat at the restaurant as attending events in a nearby village but told by a local who eats there that the food is excellent. Small restaurant so would imagine booking would be a good idea as it looked full each night. Will definitely eat there if I stay again.
Decent low priced bed and breakfast. We didnt use the facilities/restaurant so cant comment, but walk into Sherborne was easy and there are shops and restaurants there. Only negative for us was the double (full size) bed - we're used to something larger. But room was clean, bathroom nice, and although its on the main road, it was quiet at night.
The Newell hotel and restaurant in Sherborne was an unexpected little gem of a place. Our hosts were very friendly and welcoming. We stayed in room no 4 for one night which was very nice and quiet with an exceptional large wet room attached. We had booked a table in the restaurant for the evening where the food was sublime. We had all freshly prepared home cooked food served to a very high standard and the breakfast was amazing. Would fully recommend a stay here you will not be disappointed.
I was initially scared that the room would be noisy, right on the road. BUT NO. The rooms are well insulated. A great place to stay if you are visiting in Sherborne
I cannot fault the accommodation. Ten Stars!
It was lovely and clean. After a long day travelling the room and the facilities were excellent.
Would stay there again without any hesitation.
Far better than one of the other establishments in the village, which I would rate 1 star out of 10 and that’s pushing the 1star.
Fantastic 3 course dinner at very reasonable price; imaginative menu using local game, cooked to perfection by chef, Paul. Breakfasts too were delicious. Large bedroom with similarly large ensuite wet room, great for me with minor disability. Stairs to rooms (no lift) were a bit of a challenge. Could hear kitchen activity quite loudly at times, but otherwise reasonably quiet considering it is on a major road. Free parking right outside a major advantage.
The property had a separate little kitchenette on the landing instead of a tray in the room; much easier and especially like having milk from the fridge.
On the con side there could have been a better surface in the room - maybe a counter instead of the buffet cupboard? The external appearance was a bit sombre and could put off some guests - even some hanging baskets would look more cheery! No probs with inside decor.
This property was spotlessly clean and family-owned and operated. The hosts were delightful and very helpful with everything we needed, including help with our luggage and free coffee and tea throughout the day. There is a nice quiet sitting/reading room on the first floor. This is an older building on a somewhat busy street, but once you are inside, it's easy to forget the street. It is located close to the old town center. It is historic and unassuming, and the owners have a lovely French restaurant that they operate for breakfast and dinner. We were very impressed with the food. They also have an extensive wine list with carefully chosen products that are impressive. It's obvious that the owners have a lot of pride in their accommodations, and live on site so that things are always attended to. Our room was spacious and beautiful, and had a modern remodeled bathroom that was well-planned and attractive. The walk-in shower was a joy to use. We highly recommend this accommodation, although it may not look like a gem from the street view on Google. It is a lovely place to stay. We will go back there again.
