Bedroom and bed were clean and comfortable welcome was friendly. Breakfast was very poor bread for toast left in Tesco bags no tongs . 2 old bananas and a few old apples were the fruit option . One sugar bowl between everyone. No menu for hot breakfast was asked. what do you want . With very little effort and some thought breakfast could be massively improved

Quaint and quirky.
The best way to describe the Great Western is with the two words, quaint and quirky! The house is in the middle of a massive re-vamp, but that did not impinge on my stay, which was short, but long enough to form a very positive opinion.
My room was clearly re-purposed, with the en-suite bolted on, but it was clean, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom fittings were quite new and of a good standard. The furnishings were old-fashioned, but I thought that gave the place its charm and individuality, I only hope that the refurbishments don't 'modernise' the character away!

Very Quaint
A lovely warm welcome from Cathy room basic and dated but there are plans to update the whole hotel to bring it into line with what people expect but I really hope they stay true to the legacy Cathy and her husband have taken 38 years to build. Nostalgic is the best word I can use took me back to my childhood and my Nans B& B days in Southend. Great beach for the family and a Wetherspoon just a few minutes walk if you need a hot basic dinner but try Millys at the harbour for a more traditional seaside feed up

Basic, Value for Money Bed and Breakfast Accommodation
This is a very good basic, value for money B&B yet it is not a hotel as advertised as amongst other missing hotel amenities it does not have a bar or restaurant serving anything other than breakfast.
On my stay, on a cold autumn night, the heating was not turned on until the early morning, and the bedding was damp and cold with the feeling that they had just come out of the washing machine and I could not connect the Wi-Fi.
I will not forget the truly warm welcome and the hospitality from the team.

Cathy (the owner) was an amazing host, as was her colleague. We had a really happy stay and would 100% stay again.
Very disappointed to find we were staying in a building site although to be fair -there was no actual building work going on when we arrived. Clearly there had been a lot of structural work undertaken but not finished so the common parts were unwelcoming and sub-standard.
It should not have been open for guests because the work or lack of it. We had reasonable expectations of a decent cooked breakfast and hot water in the shower but sadly there was none of either
Staff were willing and friendly but it didn't make up for the problems. We left a day early and won't use either them or Hotels.com again
