They did a great job renovating the Tar Heel motel. Clean, comfortable rooms. Bring K-cups with you if you are a big coffee drinker and don’t pack heavy. This is the best of old school Outer Banks, reminds me of when my parents would take us to OBX in the 70’s staying at the Beacon.

Weekend getaway

Great little place for a weekend getaway that did not break the bank. Room was very clean with solid amenities. Really enjoyed the boutique hotel experience the Tar Heel offered.

Excellent stay. Cute beachy motel. Located within a safe area. Very clean. Quiet. Parking was available but limited. Check in was easy via a keypad. If we did have our baby with us, a pack n play probably wouldn’t have fit in the room- heads up to other parents with young ones. Would recommend this place to others.

This property is directly across the street from a public beach access. The rooms are very neat and clean. The beds weren’t very comfortable but overall I would stay here again. I love all the extra hooks for hanging towels and wet clothes. I would stay here again!

This was an impromptu trip for just the 2 of us and our dog. It’s a basic beach motel room and was exactly what we wanted. The location was across from the public beach access and behind the Dunes restaurant. Super convenient and clean. Will definitely be back.
