"We asked for a late check out and even though the hotel was absolutely empty - (we were the only two people at breakfast in a room that could seat 100) the hotel still denied a late checkout (personally I think 11am checkout is too early) so we were charged an extra £20 for a 12pm checkout. When the room costs £500 per night this is totally outrageous. The hotel was empty so it would have been a nice gesture to offer a 1pm checkout given at most high end hotels 12pm is standard. "Comfy room, generous towels. Arrived late Friday evening, no bother getting a table in the pub downstairs for food- they don't take table reservations, so I wasn't at a disadvantage. Good wide choice on the menu and attentive service. There was a nightwatchman for after hours- what a treasure! He showed me how to access once the pub was closed, helped me empty the bags from the car and carried them to our room all with a friendly, nothing was too much trouble approach.
