Lamb Hotel by Greene King Inns

10/10 Excellent

"Very helpful and polite staff. Went above and beyond during my stay. There was one fan in the room and two windows, one of which did not open all the way. Difficult to sleep during the heatwave as a result. Plus the corridors on the way to the room were quite hot and stuffy. The windows were all either partially or fully open along the way so I guess it could have been worse. Bed was comfy. I stayed in the deluxe room, which was huge, with a nice comfy couch and a sprawling bathroom. Wifi was great. Solid breakfast options and a nice bar in the lobby. Checkout was smooth as butter. Hotel was very centrally located in Ely, less than 5 mins walk from the Minster and a 15 min walk to the train station. Would definitely stay again. Just perhaps not during a heatwave."

"The staff, in particular, the receptionists including the charming Lithuanian girl, were so helpful and informative. The food was pretty good as well and well presented. Having had to slum it in a rival establishment a few years’ ago, when there was no room at Poets Corner, it was a relief to note how well looked after we were."

"Excellent location right on the river side with plenty of eateries nearby. Room had a musty smell upon arrival but this soon went after being aired. Nice bed bathroom etc and excellent breakfast. What was challenging and confusing was the parking situation. Accommodation offered parking but where exactly was it?l drove around the back and there was a sign about one area being private boatyard parking. I spoke to one lady sitting by the garage who told me I was ok to park in the bigger yard area. However in the morning there was a note on my car saying I had parked in the boatyard area. There is no one to ask in the hotel when you check in nor adequate signage to to direct guests to the correct parking space."

"I arrive to find the front door closed. I was then greated by a very helpful pleasant member of staff who advised hotel guest check in was around the back ( i then spotted a sign telling me this). He also advised that food was now being served to guests on Monday evenings despite the restaurant being closed to the public (not sure if thhis has been updated on their website) Very comfy firm mattress, absolutely horrendous pillows (if you can call them pillows !) Room was very warm but a large portable fan was provided. Sadly the fan was too noisy to use during the night and I couldnt have the window open due to road noise from the A10; although this road is quite far away, the noise from it travels easily due to the landscape so if youre a very light sleeper like me this is something to bear in mind Lovely bathroom decor/facilities especially the wonderful power shower, plenty of towels and toilet roll. Very handy fridge (I wasn't sure if the cold drinks in there were free to drink ?) and a lovely big TV and free wifi Hotel is positioned in a quiet area so no general road noise (other than the A10 in the distance). Nice walk along the side of the river is just across the road"

"The Woodlands was a beautiful stay. I loved the surrounding wild life and peacefulness about it. Staff were wonderful and went out of their way to support me, being I am disabled and require a stick to walk. The bed was extremely comfortable, clean & fresh. Nice hot showers. Breakfast was excellent and catered to my tastes. Overall I would recommend the Woodlands if your looking for a stay that offers peaceful space, nature and a very warm welcome. I will certainly be returning next year when booking for the festival I was attending."
