I stay here because it’s convenient for when I’m travelling, but I can’t get excited when I stay over. The hotel definitely needs modernising. It is very dated. Artex ceiling, dated bathroom, bedroom furniture old and looks tatty. I decided this time to pay for an upgrade. When I went to my room the bed hadn’t been made and there was a dog’s drinking bowl on the carpet. I was given another room, very plain. No pictures on the wall.

No tea and coffee in the room pushed you to go and pay for breakfast and the breakfast was not very good. Had to put my bread through the toaster 8 times before it resembled toast and the bacon looked like it had been cooked over a heated argument.

Staff were all so helpful. They made us feel so welcome. Facilities are great. Only complaint was the boiler in the cupboard was on and the pipes were hot, which made the rooms very warm. Other than that, it was a great place to stay.

We felt a bit deceived by the pictures and health suite which you it turns out you have to extra for. The health suite is the best part. The grounds are also very nice. However, we paid a lot of money for a room that was next to an outside staff area. There was lots of smoking and swearing at inconsiderate times when we were asleep very early morning.

The biggest bugbear was the remote control in my room. Although the rest of the room was clean, the remote was not. As well as being dusty, the grime between the numbers/keys was disgustingly dirty. I only used the remote twice to switch on and off and washed my hands immediately after.

The location is ok, not too much to do in the close vicinity, or any big shops for food. The hotel itself is quite dated, which is evident from the corridor, doors and the musky carpet smell. The rooms are ok in size though they were really warm in temperature and no air con available, just a desk fan. The bathroom was quite dirty with marks on the bath towel, a quarter of a toilet roll left and the bath and sink itself were a tad dirty. The pressure for the shower was really great though and the water temp, this was a really big plus. The beds (double and a single) were ok but very spongy and the duvets and pillows had marks on them. The room door is extremely loud when shutting and it did not close tightly which made sleeping at night slightly uneasy. One BIG BIG mismarketing from my booking with hotels.com is that it noted fitness centre and pool at hotel, though it is offsite(along at the stables country club) AND it is not included in the price of the stay. If i knew this i would not have booked this! The breakfast was better than expected for such place, though the healthy selection was lacking. The coffee tasted overly fruity and what really spoiled it was the old lady worker watching over what each guest takes and how long it takes them to finish. As it's her that cleans up. We as a family all felt stared at from her.
