Hyatt Vacation Club at High Sierra Lodge, Lake Tahoe

10/10 Excellent

"This property was in an excellent location, very close to the lake, walking distance. The resort provides beach equipment such as coolers, umbrellas, towels, etc. The pool is heated, there are fun activities on site and the setting in the forest is stunning. The Hyatt is within walking distance with restaurants and a casino. The rooms are cozy and very clean with a fully stocked kitchen, large refer and ice maker. The staff are friendly and helpful and the text communications are informational. Parking is $29/day and resort fee is $40 so plan for that. We really enjoyed the stay."

"Upon check-in we noticed the lobby had an odd smelly odor to it. The front desk lady was super nice but that’s where the staff friendliness ended. When we went to our room there was huge portable air conditioning unit on roller wheels with a giant tube stretched across the room and out the window, it looked like an exhaust vent. The smell of mold was very prominent and overbearing. My boyfriend has terrible asthma and he instantly became choked. We went to the front desk to request a refund because we couldn’t stay especially with the mold in the air. Gabriel the front desk manager was HORRIBLE, very non-sympathetic and refused to refund us even at the expressed request from the manager at Expedia. His character and terrible moldy smell all over and odd air apparatus in the rooms is probably why the hotel appeared completely empty. Also the photos of the rooms versus reality couldn’t be further t from the truth. The rooms appeared as though to be from the 70s!! Old run down furniture and carpets just gross!"

"We don’t have a whole lot to complain about, so 4 stars is harsh, but Expedia didn’t give a 4.5 star option. It was a clean and quiet hotel where the rooms and public areas were all in good shape. (We didn’t have time to use their spa and pool.) If we were to stay in this area, I wouldn’t mind picking this hotel again. (I might prefer a different lake for water activities to avoid the freeway noise at Donner Lake, but that’s not the hotel’s fault.) On the negative side, the young woman at the reception wasn’t exactly friendly and did not know much about how to go boating or kayaking in the Donner Lake next door. The breakfast did not have a lot of choices, but it was decent (except for the waffles). Breakfast counter area should be designed better though. All of the high demand items (fridge, toaster, coffee, pastries, jams) were all in the same narrow corner, creating a traffic jam, while three quarters of the straight side of the counter stayed wide open."
