"I am recovering from neck surgery, and was catching up with my daughter for 2days, so booked Duxton as a treat.
Not fit enough for much. Disappointed to see on arrival workmen out the front doing demolition work. The noise was deafening, and relentless. As the dining room and bar are next to reception area, the noise carried through, so eating there was not a pleasant experience.
We spent the 2 days having meals in the room. Very unfortunate, I would not have booked if I had known."
"Large room with a balcony we couldn’t use due to weather but helpful because the windows are single pane and the road noise is high. Large shower with separate tub. There is a mini fridge and kettle for instant coffee or tea. The closet comes with four attached hangers but they will bring more if you ask. Not sure how the allocation of towels works but we had to ask to have facecloths delivered. No bar soap for the shower but attached liquid bath gel, shampoo & conditioner. There’s a guest laundry. Bedtime your credit card"
"Most of the staff were friendly, but the hotel had a lot of RULES and anyone who was in breach of them was spoken to in a most unfriendly manner by senior staff - junior staff and guests alike. Often the junior staff were shouted at across the room, for everyone to witness, rather than the senior staff member taking the four steps to politely remind them within only their hearing. I witnessed a guest being told they could not split a bill, when one member of the party had already paid, and it became quite a scene.
There are rules posted up all over the hotel with really forceful signage 'must wear shoes,' 'no guests after 10pm,' 'close the door so steam doesn't activate the fire alarm.' Access to certain parts of the hotel, like the restaurant area, were restricted and the messages were relayed as 'you can't sit there, you can only sit at the bar' rather than 'that table is booked, can I direct you to the bar area over here?' (The table was not booked. We were three of seven people in the restaurant at 3pm).
Portion sizes at the restaurant were wildly variable. $12 chips one night resulted in a huge bowl, enough for three or four people, the next day for the same price, a small take-away cup, roughly $1 per chip, then the day after a larger take-away container in between both sizes. All for $12 (both these latter options are wasteful given we were eating them in the bar/restaurant).
Hot water is also very variable. Scalding hot one minute, freezing cold the next."
"Warders cottages are quaint as they are heritage but not suitable for families with younger children as the bunk beds are very high and the hotel bar is literally right outside your door where there’s loud music playing till 11+pm. There should be a noise warning for this particular room. Floorboards are also original and creaky so it’s not great if you’re sensitive to sounds at night."
"We stayed at the Atrium for one night, the pool was great for our kids and the bedroom layout was also good (we stayed in the loft) I do wish the lounges were better as they were super uncomfortable to hang out on (outdoor lounges inside)
It’s good for a short stay but probably wouldn’t want to stay more than a couple of nights if you are hanging out in the room (which we were because of the weather )
The staff were lovely and it is in a great location."
