Lat Phrao Guide

About Lat Phrao

One of the largest districts in the eastern region of Bangkok, Lat Phrao is primarily a residential area, characterised by old-style housing communities, modern condominiums, and a large number of local services. Lat Phrao Road divides the district, beginning from the far northern intersection with Phahonyothin and Vibayadi, to the southern parts near Bang Kapi. The road is notorious for its traffic jams, especially during the peak hour rush.

Don’t Miss

Lat Phrao doesn’t have a large range of landmarks or attractions to entice travellers. However, there are still several things to see and do when visiting this district.

Several temples dot the district. However, none are more prestigious or more inviting than Wat Lat Phrao. Located in the Wang-In area, off Lat Phrao’s main road, this temple is always full of activity in the mornings. A small market is set up each day, offering both temple and non-temple related items.

The Lat Phrao Khlong is one of the oldest and most important waterways in Bangkok. Tourists can spend an hour or two strolling along the side path of the canal, and get a good look at how khlong culture still exists in this part of the city.

This district features several major department stores, and is reasonably close to several other shopping facilities too. In the Central Plaza department store, plenty of entertainment is available for kids, including cinemas and play zones. These landmarks provide the perfect way to keep the whole family happy and escape the heat of Bangkok.

Restaurants and Bars

Plenty of restaurants are located along Lat Phrao. The side streets boast a long list of local Thai restaurants which offer simple but delicious menus. Fast food restaurants and sit-down international restaurant chains are mostly found in the department stores along Lat Phrao Road. When it comes to drinking venues, Lat Phrao is not well-renowned, but still contains several establishments for a fun night out. They tend to be more relaxed and subdued than those in the nearby RCA district.

Shopping

Lat Phrao’s most important shopping facility is Central Plaza department store, which is located at the very northern end of the main roadway. It remains one of the busiest department stores in Bangkok, due to its proximity to residential neighbourhoods. Union Mall is also quite popular, and sits adjacent to Central Plaza. At the very southern end of Lat Phrao is a Robinsons, not to mention the nearby Bang Kapi Mall, which is an older but still popular shopping mall.
