The entire staff, English speaking and nonspeaking, is incredibly helpful and attentive. My family and I had an amazing time there to relax and unwind. They have multiple onsens available to male and female guests and they change the availability throughout the day. The food was an amazing dining experience as well. They have an array of tastes and bites for the breakfast meal and dinner.
We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, the food was excellent and the staff were very friendly.
Overall, we were very happy with our experience and would definitely consider staying here again. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable!

All the staff were really nice and friendly, but especially the young lady serving us our dinner, as well as, the gentleman (who learnt his English in NZ:)) at at the reception. Lovely views over the lake. We have also enjoyed the dinner served in our room. I would only say that the hotel is quite dated and has musty smell throughout. Still was great to experience traditional Japanese hospitality.
My wife and I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Wakakusa no Yado Maruei. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome. Everyone was kind, attentive, and genuinely helpful throughout our stay.
My wife is pregnant, and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate her dietary needs. They were incredibly understanding and helped us with food substitutions and adjustments so that she could comfortably enjoy our traditional Japanese meals. Their kindness and attention to detail meant so much to us and made the experience even more special.
Everything about our stay was amazing, from the beautiful room and relaxing bath to the delicious food and exceptional hospitality. We felt truly cared for throughout our visit.
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan, and we will remember it for years to come. Thank you to everyone at Maruei for making our stay so special. We would absolutely love to return someday!
Room is clean and big. I chose the Mt fuji view and wake up to mt Fuji every morning.
Area surrounding the Ryokan is quiet and clean.
Most staff speak English. No issues communicating.
Breakfast and dinner were fixed meals.
Airconditioning works exceptionally well.
Amazing experience at Maruei. The staff are incredibly kind and respectful, and they made us feel very welcome. It's the authentic Japanese experience you hope to find, surrounded by beautiful scenery. We loved every minute of our stay. Thank you so much!
very traditional setting, staff were very friendly and accommodating. to us westerners, our room had a strong fish smell which turned out to be new tatami mats. they were willing to change our rooms to ensure we had a restful sleep. included traditional breakfast and dinner was a fantastic experience. the staff are so so friendly and respectful.
what we wish we had known before booking - people with tattoos are not permitted in the public onsen. This was not clearly listed in the description..
Staying at the Ryokan was an amazing experience. The staff was extremely polite kind and helpful. The rooms were comfortable. The Onsen was exactly the relaxation that was needed. And the best part was the food! Traditional dinner and breakfast was the highlight of our stay. Would 100 percent recommend staying here.
The staff was nice and this was authentically Japanese. Everyone was helpful.
However, the beds and the pillows were very hard to sleep on.
Also, they claim to have English speaking staff, but that is a stretch.
The staff were all wonderful, welcoming and friendly throughout our stay. We felt very comfortable and happy at this ryokan.

Great stay with amazing service from very kind staff. You need to accept the old school way of running the hotel they operate here. Great location and Mt Fuji views from the scenic Bath!!
The kaiseki dinner in the private dining room was excellent and the hostess was a very kind. The breakfast was excellent too. But the hotel caters to large groups and children. The rooms have zero sound insulation so children running around or other upstairs guests moving furniture until midnight is very disruptive. Breakfast was served in the large group room , again with a lot of noisy children. While there were both women’s and men’s sides onsens (baths), the quality are not at all similar. For the 1st floor baths, one side has a natural stone traditional bath with a dry and wet sauna and a cold plunge tub. But the other side has a tiled rectangular swimming pool like bath with only a mist sauna. The 5th floor has one side with a view of Mt Fuji. The other side overlooks houses and the lake. The private baths were all booked by others in advance so we weren’t able to enjoy them. The in-room shower was very simple. While view of Mt Fuji is advertised, you can really only see it from the rooftop observation area. The hotel faces the wrong way, overlooking the lake. This is good for families and large groups. But not a good place for couples.
Great service from the staff and amazing meals that were prepared by the hotel.
Also recommend booking the private onsen (with clear Mt Fuji views) makes the stay unforgettable!
The hotel location is very convenient, and they provided a shuttle bus to pick up the guests. We ordered a Mountain View room, the sight seeing is very good, and we can sitting inside the room to watch sunset and sun rise. They provide free dinner and breakfast, and they serve the dinner in the room. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. Definitely, we will come back again. This is an amazing place for us to get the Fuji Mountains energy
