"For our visit to the Big Island we stayed in Waikoloa but planned to visit the volcano. Due to the amount of driving involved we decided to spend one night in Hilo and selected the Hilo Hawaiian. The property was clean and staff were pleasant and helpful. However the hotel is showing it's age. The furniture was beat up, curtains thin in spots and the sink had a crack. The amenities were very basic - TV, mini-fridge and hair dryer. I had looked forward to sitting on the balcony and enjoying the view. But the balcony floor covering looked a little nasty, furniture uncomfortable and I had hoped for a better view. One bonus was the Bull Shed restaurant on property. Not quite as good as Kauai's but still great menu choices. Check in and out was easy and parking wasn't a problem."

"Gorgeous setting and a nicely appointed house - had everything we needed! Communication through text/email for the check-in process was very straightforward. Our kids had a blast playing in the waterfall and sleeping in the loft. The stargazing is AMAZING if you get a clear night. This was a perfect, peaceful home base for exploring the Hilo side of the Big Island!"

"Definitely stay here! The rooms are lovely as are the hosts. It's right on the water, a short walk or drive to the main shops & farmers market. Also a short drive to many lovely beaches. The breakfast was incredible - and they even accomodated gluten-free. Really great overall, great deal and we'll stay again if on Hilo!"
