If you want sleep before 11pm this is not the place for you, the music from downstairs is so loud until close there is no chance of sleep

All ok quick check in Rooms were nice and set up properly. Bad part was the shower wouldn’t get hot. Guessing boiler wasn’t turned on at 8am

Avoid
Arrived and reception was close, had to ring a number and told what room to take as door was open. Waited an hour for someone to come and see me with key and wi-fi code. No phone single at all in that area so couldn't ring out or send email while waiting.. very old dated room, poor shower but comfortable bed. I travel a lot and will not be returning.

Not 100% as expected.
The room i was allocated was a standard room as opposed to the classic that was booked. Room cold on arrival and smelt a bit foisty. Room was clean, bed comfortable, tv reception wasnt the best. Shower water pressure was terrible. Poor lighting in shower room. Breakfast was only available from 9am which should be stated in the booking details, had i known this i wouldnt have stayed there.

Lovely room in a ‘tired’ building.
The entrance to the residence is a bit scruffy. Dreary grubby carpet up the stairs which made me apprehensive as to the state of the room. I was most pleasantly surprised. The room was really good with an excellent bathroom . One small ( literally ) thing that needs rectifying wold be that the room needs a decent kettle !!!

Property set well back from main road so not too much traffic noise. Lovely room and en-suite and staff very friendly. Enjoyed my stay.

Lovely n clean .
Really lovely stay . The pub n cafe was really friendly. Food was amazing. But that’s nothing to do with the hotel. Room was lovely. The lady who runs the hotel was very moody. But was told after she is naturally like that. So don’t expect a smile when booking in. Shower was lovely but took a while to get hot. But would definitely stay again.

Updating
The room was ok but the hotel needs updating the floor boards creek in every room the carpet needs changing it’s old and filthy the fridge was noisy and placed next to the radiator the hotel itself needs a lot of work on it the showers are old and need changing it has been like this for years and it needs some money spending on it to bring it up to spec

No customer service
I sent the following email to the Fox and Hounds I gave them the opportunity to reply sadly no reply: I would have liked the opportunity to discuss this in person, however, as reception was unmanned it was not possible. I booked and paid for a classic double room, I informed you I was bringing my dog. What we got was room 6 a standard double. If I remember correctly the standard was £132 for the 2 nights, we paid £143 for the classic double room. Reason for the classic was an armchair to sit in and a bit more space. Your receptionist requested an extra £20 for the dog for 2 nights, I assume for extra cleaning, no cleaning was done after 1st night. The bed was very uncomfortable the neighbouring rooms noisy, the floor creaked and the wardrobe rattled every time you walked past it. Unrestful night was had. I understand that not all rooms are dog friendly but surely if we cannot have the room requested you should have refunded the difference? I look forward to your reply prior to my review submission. However the Retriever Bar next door was fabulous food and service - they have nothing to do with the hotel side. So Buyer beware and make sure tou have a room in the main building as I am sure they would be much better!

Great location, but only OK
Location is fab, room generous size and quiet. Staff try but only start around 11am. Breakfast in cafe next door starts at 9am. Next food options more than 2 miles away. Shower is useless with no water pressure. Wifi temperamental. Fridge in room seems nice but freezes everything. Would've been fine for a night, but not for longer trips.

Tv mast had burned down so landlord came out and fixed alternative signal. Great. Receptionist very helpful and friendly. Can’t wait to stay again. Great place.

No one in check in - says to ring bell and nothing, cant ring mobile number as no reception and finally saw a ring doorbell with no instructions. Someone answered after 5 minutes. Overall check in needs to be made easier

Passing through Slapewath
The Fox and Hounds was a perfectly convenient stop whilst I was walking the Cleveland Way . Well priced , comfortable , and I was impressed with the effort that had obviously been made to make the room comfortable . I would be happy to stay again .

Well worth a visit
Very happy with the room and service. Very clean and everything at hand. We were in room 15 the red one with four poster bed. Had a meal at the adjoining restaurant. Very good selection. Also breakfast at the adjoining cafe.

Would stay again
Excellent location for walking the Cleveland Way. Food in pub was delicious and service very good too. The room was spacious and clean. The only issue we had was that the shower flow was weak.

Comfortable and clean
Comfortable and clean. We had to wait to be checked in as we had arrived earlier than expected but the staff were friendly. Room had everything we needed and was clean.

Taking into account covid19 i wouldn't stay again. Owner friendly and room clean although the quilt had seen better days. The attached bar/restaurant are separately owned and was only open 1 day during our stay, prices for drinks extortionate from hotel reception. Very close by there are kennels or a house with dogs that barked and howled all night. Noy a very relaxing stay

Worse nights sleep ever
There are two stand out problems. 1. The noise of bedroom next door when they ran water or had the fan on was horrendously loud making it capable for us to sleep. They switched the fan off at 2am!!! 2. We made a mistake in our booking and booked it one month ahead. This meant that when we turned up we had to pay for 1 nights accommodation again!!! Since this error it has been very difficult to get a refund for the 2nd night that never happened!!! We have tried numerous times to cancel the night booked in advance but it has been too difficult a process. All in all, an awful experience.
