I took a chance and booked us a location that was off the touristy spot where all the big hotels were - so glad I did - VUE is a hidden gem. We took to walking around the Hutong neighborhoods right away, my father loved his morning walks in Houhai Park which was right behind the hotel. "This main picture is a bit misleading - this is the courtyard. Small hotel off a very narrow alleyway. Half our taxis were willing to venture all the way to the hotel. Just a short walk either way to busy streets, but was not expecting that. Staff was very friendly and tried to communicate with us. Breakfast was delicious. Room is very small but I hear that is typical for the area."

"We had a wonderful stay at the Jingshan Garden Hotel. The staff were so welcoming and helpful. They assisted us in securing reservations for the National Art Museum, which is nearly impossible if you don't have a Chinese phone number or speak Mandarin. The property has the authentic feel of an old Beijing courtyard house, and staying here turned out to be a much more enjoyable and memorable experience than staying in one of the large international chain hotels that we were originally...
