The breakfast was lovely. There’s no air-conditioning so you’ll have to crack the window. There’s some stairs, so just be aware that you need to carry your luggage up some stairs. The staff are very helpful and friendly.

The setting is stunning surrounded by beautifully maintained grounds. A beautiful building, very tastefully decorated. Quiet and peaceful, great night's sleep. The staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. The breakfast was delicious. A shirt walk to the town. I would very highly recommend it.

This is a very characterful property. The staff and service were excellent. The town of USK is small but very pretty with lots of dining options and only a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Generally an excellent location for exploring Monmouthshire.

Character

Old fasioned mainly in a good way, but certain aspects could do with some modernisation. Staff were friendly, breakfast was cooked to order (although it was fairly average). Everything very clean. Shower over bath was OK but the bed was far to soft for my preference. For the cost I feel it's a 3 star rather than 4. Could offer better room drinks and a gym maybe. I'd stay again but you can get a lot more facilities at other places for less spend.

Nice hotel stay spoilt by loud disco music

Nice hotel, lovely staff but a wedding each day of our 2-day stay, with a loud disco each evening. The music stopped at midnight, but as early risers this was way past our normal sleep time. Little sleep the first night, slightly more the second night when we were given a room at the other end of the hotel (though the music was still vibrating through the bed). We would be wary of staying there again in case there was another wedding.

Poor customer service and incorrect information

I booked this place because of the check in until midnight and because they were accomodating key workers who provided evidence of key worker status on arrival. I arrived at a pitch black hotel at 11.30pm and after ringing the door bell a number of times a man answered and told me they were closed. I had driven for over 4 hours to get there and said how is that possible i have a resrvation and showed him my phone with the confirmation email. He still said no thats not right we are closed. This back and forth continued for 10 minutes and he even told me to go to travel lodge, he was very unsympathetic and did not care that i had a reservation. I told him i needed a room and i would be out by 6am at this point he ssid ok if you are out by 6am you can stay. He was not happy about it though, he directed me to the room which was up 2 flights of stairs in darkness. I had to use my phone torch to find the room. The toilet had a film of black scum in it and room was cold. Its by far the worst experience i have ever had in a hotel.
