"I cannot sing the praises of the River Suites enough! We had a fantastic week-long stay and everything was perfect. The breakfast was brilliant, bar food was just as good, cocktails were top tier and the pool areas were really quiet, clean and relaxing. Also excellent WiFi wherever you are! "Really nice place to go and relax – was a bit caught out by the number of young families there (09.07.26-16.07.26), not really an issue (and we've had a family so know what it is like), but was hoping for a little more quiet, particularly regarding the family above our room!! We'll deffo go back, but 2 or 3 weeks earlier to hopefully avoid the families. Restaurants were excellent, the food was very very good (particularly Mouries) especially when compared to a restaurant in Malia Old Town – and very competitive when you take into account you need a taxi in and out of Malia old town. All restaurant staff were very attentive and liked to chat, so relaxed and very friendly. We had a swim up bungalow, worth the extra for that, you get a really nice private space for relaxing after a hard day on the beach! The beach was clean and kept very tidy (in fact, it wont a Blue Flag award while we were there). The sea was amazingly warm, probably one of the warmest seas I've been in on all my travels. The beach guy and the Beach Shack staff worked really hard and nothing was too much trouble for them – drinks were served very quickly, even at the furthest part of the beach from the bar. Overall, very nice place to go and relax."

"An Amazing Stay from Start to Finish! Abaton was absolutely amazing. The resort has beautiful views, great common areas, and everything you need for a perfect stay. The rooms are spacious, modern, and spotless, with a huge balcony and an incredible view. The room layout isn't the best, but everything else more than made up for it. The dining was a highlight. Buddha-Bar Beach has a great selection of delicious food and drinks — the sushi is spectacular. Bony Fish restaurant was also very good, and the breakfast buffet has an incredible selection to start the day. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We had an amazing time and would absolutely return. Highly recommend!"

"We had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful hotel for two weeks and cannot recommend highly enough. We arrived late and very tired and was greeted with a big smile and welcome drinks from Dimitris who always went out of his way to ensure we were enjoying our stay. We had a room overlooking the small pool which was quiet and perfect for us. But just a few steps away was the stunning large pool leading to the beautiful beach. The hotel was spotless and the room cleaned very well daily (special mention to all the cleaning staff especially Angela). All staff deserve recognition they all smile and can’t do enough for you. Breakfast had many options and was delicious which you ordered the day before. Option of being served to your room or in the restaurant overlooking the sea. The restaurant served great drinks & lovely food with a smile and although it shut at 7pm there was a great taverna next door open till very late run by the brilliant Nicos. I would recommend a car as there is so much beauty to see & plenty to do around this beautiful part of Crete. Honestly we were blown away. Thanks so much The River, we’ll be back next year. "Incredible property, amazing location. Rooms are very spacious, comfortable beds. Food at all outlets was really delicious - and the consistency of the buffet breakfast was impressive. Property is quite large, but you're never left waiting long to get a buggy to take you from one part of the resort to the other. Another massive plus for families is how well staff cater to your needs. Not only is the kids club an amazing resource, but even down to how staff across all restaurants are so good and friendly with children. The beach club is also super chic, food is great there too. The water at the beach is fresh, but so beautiful, amazing blues. I would recommend if you are staying in the eastern part of Crete - this is the place to be, it's a resort feel without being to commercial and touristy feeling - a great balance of luxury and reality, given the area it's located in (situated between the small village of Plaka and larger town of Elounda)"

From the front desk, to poolside, to the restaurant, everyone we came in contact with was lovely and helpful. The property is absolutely stunning, room was modern and very clean. I loved that you could order food and drinks poolside and on their little beach, through the app. So convenient!"

"An absolutely stunning property with the most proactive, helpful and attentive staff I've ever seen at a resort. Other reviews already highlight how beautiful the resort is, so thought I'd leave specific info about accessibility, as it was a lot better than I anticipated from previous info online. My wife uses a wheelchair, although can manage short distances/a few steps. Although the resort is on a slope with multiple tiers, most of the grounds are feasible for a wheelchair; going from main reception to the bungalows, most communal grounds and the route towards the beach are all slopes. To get down to the beach and the beach bar itself, there are maybe 10 steps. Similarly, to get to the buffet restaurant, there are a few steps. If you're in a situation like us, where a wheelchair is generally needed but a few steps are manageable, don't let it put you off the resort. The staff were SO helpful and kind. They pre-emptively offered taking us on the golf cart, let us park our car next to the reception, always found ways to make trips easier and even, the night before we were set to leave, had the hotel repairman repair a loose screw on the wheelchair! I can't thank the staff enough for their support; they made us feel completely relaxed and as though we had to make no compromises even with accessibility needs. Thank you."
