ABC Museum of Drawing and Illustration

Framed by a sleek and glassy exterior, this gallery has kids’ classes, travelling displays of modern works and huge collections of drawings across its six floors.

With its triangular windows and modern metallic façade, the ABC Museum of Drawing and Illustration is a hip and bohemian cultural hub with an underground gallery. It has an extraordinary architectural design, made up of undulating triangles. Make your way through the museum’s varied displays to learn about everything from modern art and restoration projects to comics and animation.

The site has six stories, two of which are underground. Check out the various temporary exhibitions that pass through the galleries. Bring the whole family to this eclectic venue, which usually has activities and workshops for kids. Study some of the artistic treasures on display in the ABC Collection, which was first set up in 1891.

Participate in a guided tour to learn more about the history of the building from an official lecturer. Tours run for 45 to 60 minutes and the fee depends on the size of your group. Participate in one of the workshops to improve and refine your technique in such fields as watercolors, drawing and illustration.

As you walk around the large exhibition complex, study its huge collection of drawings. Purchase books and souvenirs in the gift shop.

You can also rent one of the impressive rooms for private events, such as conferences, gala dinners and presentations. Appreciate the stylish and elegant aesthetic of the Cube Room and the light and airy quality of the futuristic Glass Room.

There is no fee to enter the museum. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from late morning until evening and on Sundays until early afternoon. Donations are welcome.

A little north of central Madrid, the ABC Museum of Drawing and Illustration stands between the Ventura Rodriguez, San Bernardo and Noviciado stations. Take a bus to a stop on the neighboring street and meander through the district to see other other nearby attractions such as the Centro Cultural Conde Duque, the Museo Municipal de Arte Contemporáneo and the Liria Palace.
