The I-5 corridor in northern California can be pretty bleak in the summer months, but you can still find an oasis here and there. This one is west of Redding, maybe about a half-hour off the Interstate. Drive west on highway 299, past Whiskytown Lake and look for a sign for Crystal Creek. This multi-tiered waterfall surrounded in green is just the thing! TRAVEL TIP: Have a long, overnight flight coming up? Not bad, it’s convenient- close to Hwy 5 and right next to steak restaurant. Just a place to sleep. Breakfast is fair, just a typical low budget breakfast.
