Tarifa Travel Guide

Let the easterly and westerly winds carry you to the temple of windsurfing. The destination’s magnetism will captivate you with its historical past and love for nature.

Although Tarifa is synonymous with the sea and watersports, during your holidays in Tarifa, your starting point will be a stroll through the town. Its old quarter is enclosed by medieval walls, declared a Site of Cultural Interest. Two important sections can be identified, one from the Islam era and another reflects Christian times. Of the three gates into the historical city, only Puerta de Jerez from the 13th century remains.

Our cheap holidays in Tarifa offer you the chance to wander down narrow cobbled streets and admire the interior courtyards of the typical houses. You’ll come across the Church of San Mateo, the town’s main church, as well as the Chapel of Santiago, built on the remains of a mosque. There are loads of craft shops, restaurants and bars on Calle San Francisco, the epicentre of Tarifa’s night life, or Calle Batalla del Salado, where you’ll find the majority of surf shops.

Exit towards Paseo de la Alameda, on which you’ll catch sight of the statue of Guzmán El Bueno, defender of Tarifa from the Moors in the 15th century. Continue on to the Castle of Guzmán El Bueno, a medieval fortress with privileged views of the Strait, making it seem so close you could almost touch it.

With our package holidays in Tarifa, explore miles of crystal clear water, fine sand and marine depths that attract windsurfers and kitesurfers and all others who want to enjoy dolphin and whale watching or relax on some of Spain’s prettiest beaches. They are well worth a visit: check out the beaches of Bolonia (declared a natural monument), Valdevaqueros (with its extensive active dunes still in formation), the cliffs of Punta Paloma and its mud baths, Los Lances (a kitesurfer’s paradise) and the urban Playa Chica.

Find holiday deals to Tarifa and enjoy the area’s local tuna and Moroccan influenced dishes, a trip to Andalusia’s past and connection with nature.

Very windy town so the Sun can be deceptive, nice and cheap places to eat & drink, not a lot of spoken English but enough to get by. Lots of nice places to visit in and around Tarifa

Tarifa is a nice quiet town with pleasant people. It was very windy the week I visited and ideal for kite surfers. Although Tarifa is a nice place there isn’t an awful lot to do. Whale watching possible but cancelled due to wind.

Very weather dependant. We went for the boat trip to see dolphins and whales but the weather was to windy for the boats to go out. Not a lot else to do if you don't have a car.
