Stjørdal is situated in a very fertile part of Norway and has been a source of agriculture for thousands of years. With agriculture came the nobility, and the farms, castles and churches in the area have been the scene of several important events in Norwegian history. With its central location between Northern and Southern Norway, the area is characterised by centuries of trade, which also made its way east into Sweden. All kinds of craftsmen created products for the domestic market, and several workshops and other buildings have been preserved at the Museum of Stjørdal. This, and the Hegra fort museums are mandatory destinations for historians.
Stjørdal has a real treat to offer music lovers with the annual blues festival, Blues in Hell. This event is held in the village of Hell, situated immediately south of Stjørdalshalsen and draws thousands of visitors every autumn. Every third year, in autumn, Agrisjå, one of Norway’s largest agricultural shows is also held here. The show is a Mecca for those interested in agricultural machinery, livestock innovations and much more within the field – but with a Trøndelag twist.
