Lycksele is located in the middle of Swedish Lapland along the tourist route Bla Vagen, or the Blue Highway. It's perfect for an active holiday in nature and it also has many sights for children of all ages. If you're on holiday in Lycksele with the family, no visit is complete without an excursion to Lycksele Zoo. Pet goats and other farm animals during the spring and summer, before they are moved to warmer dwellings in winter. The zoo is open during the winter months as well, but since Lycksele's climate is sub-arctic, it's too cold for some of the animals to be outside.
The best time to travel to Lycksele is between late spring and early autumn, for a more reasonable climate. During summer you can spend a weekend at Lycksele Golf Club and enjoy a game under the midnight sun, or take a day trip to Lake Stor-Tanntrasket. The nature surrounding Lycksele consists of mainly coniferous forest and small lakes, so you can take a pick amongst all the wonderful natural sights Northern Sweden has to offer.
During winter people choose to visit Lycksele for cross country skiing and ice skating. Bockslidens Skidbacke is open for downhill skiing during winter, and in summer you can rent a mountain bike for a daring ride down the slopes. Afterwards, take a refreshing dip at Ansia Badpark. You’ll find a pool to suit every taste, whether you’re here to exercise or to chill by the side of the pool while the kids splash around or have a go on the water slide.
One of the highlights of a holiday in Lycksele is a journey in a dog sled. Go on a silent flight behind a dog team through gorgeous forests and open landscapes and see nature from a unique perspective. If you want to see wildlife like foxes and elk up close in their natural environment, this is the activity for you. You can travel in a comfortable sled behind the team or even try your hand at driving yourself, all through winter.
A holiday in Lycksele has something to offer all year round, with wonderful nature hikes in summer and an exotic winter wonderland in the colder part of the year.
