So steep to find gravel road limited parking outside and they charged $27 per night for that. Old big house with noise, bad smell, inconvenient steep rocky step walk, poor room maintenance. Not worth it to stay and will not recommend.

Very clean and close to the cove only downfall is everything is uphill behind the hotel. Restaurants and bars so it a steep climb.

The room was very clean and the bed was super comfortable. Good location, walkable to alot of places to eat. Only complaint is the walls are very thin so you can hear any little noise outside or in next room.

When I booked this hotel, I thought I was booking a nice and modern room, this was not the case. When we showed up, we learned that we would get a room in the old, un-renovated section of the building that was never advertised or shown in any images except for a sliver of the building color. Speaking to the front desk, they told us that we shouldn’t have looked at the room, and even blamed expedia for pictures that they put up. Anyone with common sense can see that this is not the right way to run a business, solely based on false advertising.

Do not waste your money staying on the side that has not been remodeled. 1 shower didn’t work. Pull out sofas with mattress we’re old and gross. Bathrooms and kitchenette old , dingy and not entirely working. Walkways dirty. Very dark rooms…loud weddings at night with loud music. Terrible stay, won’t go back! The new side looked much nicer.

One of the worst hotel stay experiences we've ever had. We booked an economy room in the hotel's older, un-remodeled section and it was a huge mistake. The online photos of the room posted by the hotel are very misleading. I've had a much better experience staying in a Motel 6. Honestly, the hotel management should be ashamed and embarrassed for offering such poor rooms for such incredibly high prices. The only positive thing about this hotel is the location. On to the bad.. Room condition: Carpets are dirty with a horrible musty/moldy smell. Furniture is old and falling apart. Single pane windows without working locks, which could be opened from the hallway on the outside (not safe!). The chair in the room had multiple stains. Amenities: Our hotel room did not have A/C, a microwave, a mini-fridge, or a hair dryer. It's 2024, why can't a microwave and mini-fridge be included? Parking is $27/night when you can park for free right outside the hotel on Coast Blvd. Bathroom is extremely small and the shower water would turn extremely hot anytime an adjacent unit would flush their toilet. Lastly, on our last day the check-out was at 11am. While away from our room in the morning, we left the "do not disturb" placard on our door and still had some of our belongings in the room. When we got back to our room at 10am (an hour before checkout), there was a cleaning lady in our room starting to clean the room, even though we had the "do not disturb" placard placed on the door and it was

I thought this was such a perfect place for a beautiful ocean view! I wouldn’t stay in this area again, because I’m young and would like a place that’s not so quiet and has more bars and clubs in the area. If you’re looking for something quiet and beautiful, it’s a wonderful place! I got a room that was remodeled and was very happy!

Location was great. Hotel is VERY noisy at night with doors slamming and hearing people in adjacent rooms. Most upset about having room change inconvenience and time spent resolving as they put us in the wrong room based on what we paid (paid for King and they put us in a Queen). But they left our bags near the front desk all day, sitting unsecured area, when they assured us they would move them to our new room for us, and did not. I just happen to see our bags sitting there when we returned that evening!

BEWARE. Bait and switch. Half of the property, the Pine side, has been renovated and is absolutely gorgeous. The other half is a nightmare from 1940. They don’t show pictures of the bad side. The only picture they show is of the bed, which is accurate. They neglect to show the formica bathroom, stained nasty carpet tiles, old ikea dresser with dorm fridge and microwave sitting on top. The room smelled of bleach so bad it made my eyes sting. There is not one picture of the pink exterior with crumbling concrete, exposed plumbing, AC units on the balcony, and rusted railings. The cheapest rooms are from this side. When the email you to upgrade that is why. We ended up with a beautiful room in the good side but at a huge price increase, even with their ‘discount’. The poor front desk staff seem immune to the constant stream of angry and disappointed customers on the ‘Nasty side’ as a I heard another patron call it.

Location was great and had a nice view of the ocean. Rooftop seating area was the highlight. Our room was in the older section of the hotel and it was run down. Balcony had a lot of rust and the door to the balcony didn’t open and close properly. Also some rust in the bathroom and the water temperature in the shower changed dramatically while taking a shower.

The renovated portion (The Pines) of the hotel is very nice, and this is where we ended up staying… be cautious when booking and pay attention to the details of the room. The original room we booked was not on the renovated side of the hotel, and the photos were VERY misleading, and there was no mention of partial renovations. We arrived for check in, and our original room was BEYOND disappointing. I wouldn’t have slept a wink all week, and we arrived with two young children who were tired and starving after a day of traveling across the country. The room was dated, dingy, filthy, all surfaces damaged and scratched, I wiped surfaces with a Clorox wipe and it was black afterwards, etc. I didn’t even let my kids take their shoes off. After a discussion with the front desk and the reservation line, we were able to switch to the renovated side of the hotel, but for an upgrade fee of course. The new rooms are very nice, and you can’t beat the location, but the booking/check in experience was just a very disappointing way to start off our first time in La Jolla. It was later disclosed to me that there is intent to gut and remodel the remaining portion of the hotel in the fall.

Great location but rooms need a bit of updating. Room heater did not work and had to get a portable heater which did not work well enough for the space. We were ocean front and the view from the balcony was spectacular. That made up for heating problem.

I stayed in the renovated portion of the hotel with an ocean view. The view was absolutely incredible and I could see and hear the sea lions in La Jolla Cove from the balcony in the room. The room had upgraded amenities with push button lights. It was much more affordable than other ocean view rooms in La Jolla. The room wouldn’t have matched the price in other cities but for the view it was very worth it. Also I came early to drop luggage off (11am) and my room was ready so I checked in early free of charge.
