Canada’s largest underwater tourist attraction, located in Stanley Park, mixes education with entertainment.

The Vancouver Aquarium first opened its doors in 1956. Today, at nearly 100,000 square feet (9,000 square metres), it’s the largest aquarium in the country. Located in Stanley Park, near downtown, the aquarium makes for an interesting afternoon for all ages.

Peer through massive underwater windows or from platforms above to view thousands of sea animals from all over the world. Check out giant fish of the Amazon, tiny clownfish, slithery eels, and ferocious sharks, among others. And be sure to catch the daily dolphin and beluga whale shows. There are also galleries and habitat recreations that explore British Columbia’s wild coast and the Canadian arctic waters.

There are a number of close encounters with the animals that are sure to delight the entire family. Participate in the Beluga Encounter, going behind the scenes to feed these giant whales and help out during their daily training session. There are also opportunities to take a tour of the facilities with the trainers as they prepare and feed the sea otters and sea lions. Sign up for these adventures well ahead of time at the aquarium’s website.

Immerse yourself in a multi-sensory journey into the world of marine animals through the aquarium's 4-D Experience. From the comfort of your theatre chair, you'll not only see and hear a short film, but also use your senses of touch and smell.

You’ll find much more than underwater creatures at the Vancouver Aquarium. Walk through the Graham Amazon Gallery, a mini jungle expedition where you’ll come across tropical birds, snakes, two-toed sloths, and monkeys. There are simulated tropical rainstorms every hour with rolling thunder, rain, and lightning.

The Vancouver Aquarium is about a 30-minute walk from central Vancouver, or rent a bike in Stanley Park. There are numerous bus routes that stop here, and parking is available for a fee.
