Having stayed in several highly rated 5 star hotels during our month long tour of India we felt this to be the best. If you're looking for the backwater experience in true comfort and style then this gives you that. We hired a day boat which picked us up from the bottom of the garden. "Great ambience, we had a tough start on our trip. But staff more than made up for it through upgraded service, great food and willingness to lean in to accommodate our schedules, as requested. Overall, a great stay!"

"The hospitality, housekeeping and general staff were excellent. This Taj is not a 5 star property. As much as one can appreciate its history, it is a dated property, yet it sits in the middle of a bird sanctuary. Be aware, the luxury villas have bathrooms that are open air. They do not have AC! This is most uncomfortable in a tropical climate. The hairdryer is attached to the wall making it impossible to dry your hair in a cool environment. This is not my idea of 5 star."

"Very out dateded, ac unit froze up started leaking all over our stuff and then it started throwing ice chunks. We went to the front desk and they offered to switch rooms. We switched rooms and everything was fine other than the bed being rock hard and the bed sheets with a ton of stains. We ended up checking out early and they would not refund us the other night stay. This property is also not kid friendly nothing for kids to do. No up keep to this property very ran down. "

"Stayed there with my family of 3 on NY eve last year. The property was well maintained. While we didn’t get to try all the amenities due to the NY eve rush, the complimentary boat ride on the lake Vemnad was amazing (I would highly recommend to book in advance as it fills our fast). Food was ok. I would recommend this place who wants a quiet, family friendly place in Allepey. "
