Table Rock Dam

Table Rock Dam
See an impressive dam and explore a very popular area in Missouri. Enjoy a great day outdoors fishing, swimming, hiking and sailing.

The construction of Table Rock Dam on the White River brought significant changes to the Branson area. Visit Table Rock Lake, a great warm-water recreation lake, and the artificial cold-water Lake Taneycomo, which attracts fishermen from around the country. Explore a very famous tourist attraction, with loads of fun activities and interesting spots, including Table Rock State Park, a fish hatchery and the Dewey Short Visitor Center.

Start with a visit to the dam wall itself and see a striking construction that measures 6,423 feet (1,958 meters) long and rises 252 feet (77 meters) above the riverbed. The name Table Rock comes from Table Rock Mountain, where the dam was originally planned to be built. Although the site was changed because of expected issues with stability, the name was retained. Discover how this spectacular construction created a lake that covers about 43,100 surface acres (17,400 hectares) and has a massive shoreline of 745 miles (1,199 kilometers) in Missouri and Arkansas.

The small village of Oasis was evacuated to build the dam. Dive in Table Rock Lake with a local diving guide to find the village landmarks that still lie below the surface. You’ll also be able to spot different sunken boats, including a twin-deck riverboat and a 40-foot (12-meter) cruiser.

While you are in Table Rock Dam, be sure to visit Table Rock State Park, next to the dam. Facilities in the park include a campground, a boat launch and a marina, with a café, boat rental and scuba dive shop. Have lunch at the picnic area, go fishing and swimming and discover fun hiking and mountain bike trails.

Drive across Table Rock Dam and visit the Dewey Short Visitor Center. Here you can see interesting displays, watch historical films about the lake and dam in the small theater, buy a souvenir from the gift shop and discover fantastic views.

Visit Table Rock Dam and enjoy a fun area for the whole family. In the evening, enjoy a performance at one of Branson’s more than 50 live theater shows.
