This is the best hotel for Pulpit Rock hiking. The service and breakfast are very good. The only thing is it is not very quiet because some people need to get up very early to hike to Pulpit Rock.
My teenage daughter and I spent one night here in June 2025 and it was a great stay! We arrived in the evening and the self-check-in didn’t work because we booked through Hotels.com so we had to check-in at the “Barception”. Then we had dinner at the restaurant—only a few options but good food and amazing views. Room was clean and neat. The Hiker Cafe the next day was awesome. Overall great stay.
This hotel was the perfect base camp for hiking to Preikestolen. The lake setting is beautiful and there is kayaking and disc golf and many different hikes. The hike up to Pulpit Rock has three steep step inclines met with meadows and wide rock spaces. The hike is worth every step for the stunning and memorable views. It's quite an experience to look over the side of a cliff down about 2,000 feet. The hotel is rustic with it's front steps at the trailhead. The staff are helpful and friendly (thank you Adam and Natallia!). Most surprising feature in this hiking type lodge was the incredible dinners. The Norwegian food is prepared as in a five star restaurant and a had to thank the chef for the Asparagus soup and the meatball and vegetables main course. The room is comfortable with a nice lake view. A great stay!
My son and I really enjoyed our stay here. The food is great and it’s just wonderful to get into warm shower and eat yummy food after a day’s hike.
The staff are ever so kind and helpful, starting from running into one staff at Kolumbus bus station to ask for assistance to making sure our stay was enjoyable.
Thank you!!!
we stayed in both the hostel building and the main hotel and the hotel is much nicer but the hostel has a good feel too--really helpful staff and a gorgeous lake. Only suggestion is you ca hear the restaurant music in some of the rooms so maybe turn it down a little at 8?
but a great experience and the easiest way to really get into the Norwegian countryside.
It boasts a prime location with lake views and is situated right next to the trailhead for Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock). The staff are helpful, and the food is excellent.
*Traveling Solo* - i couldn't have selected a better place to start my journey! A would call this a semi-hostel, shared spaces, but private rooms where you sleep. Great night sleep, Easy instructions and help from the front desk, and a WONDERFUL shower in the morning. What more could you ask for? Thank you to the team.. Hiking Pulpit is currently on the top of my best experiences list - a lot in part to my Basecamp stay. Its no fancy 5 star, but truly all you need. Pro Tip - wake up early, have coffee and breakfast on the deck or in the dining area with views of the Fjord.
Roomy and comfortable. Direct access to the trail. Staff were friendly and attentive. So much more to do if you want to spend a couple extra nights and at a great value.

Liked: Cleanliness
Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
We chose the hotel for its proximity to the Pulpit Rock. When we arrived the hotel was under the renovations and the view from the rooms was the piles of garbage. The room itself was clean, renovated but very basic. The obvious downside was that the bathroom with toilet were in a room with glass walls, lucking the privacy.
