Wow, what a lovely hotel! The location couldn’t be beat - we walked everywhere with the gorgeous lake in front, the gardens to the left, surrounded by shops and restaurants. The free valet parking was easy to use, but we really didn’t need a car. The hotel itself is historic but comfortably luxurious with high ceilings and oozing character. We enjoyed the lovely parlor, which is a living room open to the small cadre of guests staying at any particular time. We met some other families during the evening drinks and canapés, which were Included in our stay, and I used the space for some work video conferences during the morning hours, when I did not want to disturb my family sleeping in our room. Overall, Eichardt’s was warm and comfortable. Service was outstanding and we didn’t want to leave. The main picture on the hotels.com Website shows a hot tub, which is belongs to the penthouse room and isn’t open to anyone else. A bit misleading since you don’t need your swimsuit, but everything else here was phenomenal. We will be back!

Location is good but facilities need to be upgarde
I was staying for 2 nights , the secobd night ,
There were some problems.
1:The light bulbs were flickering randomly in the living room, need to turn off and on for few times.
2 : I wanted to take a bath, but I wasn't sure if the blue bottle is for the bath. The receptionist came to see it, but he was not very sure as well and told me better not to use it, so i couldn't take a bath , and the next day , when I checked out , they told me oh yes it's for bath :( Feel very disappointed about that,
their stuff need to be trained properly.
3: when I was in a shower , the water wasn't hot , it was warm and getting colder and colder ,
I could only finished the shower quickly, basically I finished my shower in cold-warm water. It was a cold night.
And when we called the receptionist ,he apologized for that and couldn't do anything for us ,only can respond to the maintenance team on the next day.
It was a very bad experience for the last night , especially for this high-grade hotel , NZD$920 for a night , I think it didn't worth it ,facilitates need to be upgarde
We stayed the night here to break up our camper van experience around the South Island. It was such a fantastic night stay, we booked another night! Beautiful hotel, excellent friendly service. Wonderful views! Would seek this hotel out again without a doubt.
Eichardt's was delightful. The team were fabulous; they were welcoming and easy to deal with. It could only have been better if they managed to work out how to make it snow on request!! We look forward to visiting again soon.
Nice location and generally well appointed room . Unfortunately there was a strange plumbing odor which detracted . Also breakfast wait service was disengaged

Upon arrival at Eichardt's Private Hotel (the entrance and lobby were very hard to find!), we were greeted by a nice man we weren't sure was the concierge, guest manager, or bellman. After informing us that our car was parked in the wrong location, he grabbed a luggage cart and came out to unload our luggage which he proceeded to wheel down the street to our lakefront apartment. In hindsight, he may have suggested that we walk down together to view the room and that he would deliver the luggage later. He gave a thorough review of the room amenities but explained nothing about the property itself, restaurant hours, fitness options, etc. At one point during our stay the wrong car was brought to us when we requested ours. Overall, the staff seemed to not be coordinated and no one seemed in charge nor committed to excellent service befitting a property commanding that price. Also, our room was 'tired'. The grout in the bathroom was dirty (a good bleaching would help!), the rug in the living room was frayed, and the upholstery was worn. We also noticed a large boat at the dock with the hotel name on it. Was that a service or tour option we could have taken advantage of?
Great staff, excellent location. Had a few difficulties with room which were resolved by the attentive staff. Only negative was the limited breakfast menu which had very few of the standard breakfast items (cereals, eggs, bacon, sausages).
Disappointing to be given a room that did not have any windows! A bit cheeky for a so-called 5 star hotel, as it felt quite claustrophobic. A mention of this at booking would have been appreciated. In addition, soundproofing was terrible - our room was next to a kitchen, and all sounds were clearly audible, from conversations, to the radio, pots and pans and more. We left feedback in the room on the hotel's feedback form as we were checking out very early and couldn't address it in person. No one has been in touch since. Shame to be let down by what should not have been offered as a room without warning. In contrast, staff and service are really great, and location is unrivalled.
Overall, the feeling of the place is a bit like a B&B, rather than a hotel, it's main income source looks like the bar and restaurant.
