After a long day of driving, we were thrilled to enter the building and hear they have upgraded us to partial ocean view. We sat on the balcony and enjoyed a relaxing view before dinner. "Beautiful hotel and proximity to attractions, food, beach views was perfect. However, my check-in experience wasn’t the greatest and customer service lacked. I called a few days prior to request an early check in and when I arrived (about 2 hours before check in time), this wasn’t able to be accommodated. I went out for food and arrived about 30 minutes before official check in time and room still wasn’t ready. However, I spoke to a different front desk agent and they were accommodating, and...

"Over all were good. Nice and clean. Two points of concern. Firstly breakfast area was cramped even when there were not many guests. Secondly light sensor in toilet was either set incorrectly or malfunctioning. It would shut down light every 30 seconds. It could not detect people inside shower room. We had to slide open shower door every 30 seconds or taking shower in complete darkness. If it happened only to our room then it should be fixed before we arrived. "The room was clean and smelled nice. The staff were very polite and helpful when asked questions. "

"The property is very clean. The bed was comfortable, however, the pillows were flat and uncomfortable. The breakfast was always well stocked and the breakfast area was clean and well attended to. The doors to the outside have a gap on the bottom that allows light and noise to come into the room. Adding a door seal could really help with that. We ended up having to use a pillow because the light was bright coming into our room. Overall it was a good stay. I would definitely stay here again."

"Cozy, always super clean, short drive away to downtown Monterey, close to the freeway going to Carmel, there's a mall across the street in case you need anything."

"I liked it. For one it's just what I needed. Simple, clean. Great location and easy parking underneath the hotel. Located near the Pier where there is a great seafood restaurant. Some of the rooms may have the view blocked by stairwell or electrical things. It didn't matter whether I had a 3rd floor or 2nd floor. The elevator is a nice addition to a weary traveller. Front desk staff both great night and day. I'd return. "

"This is most certainly an older hotel but the room was completely updated and had a super comfortable bed and pillows, great shower, nice Kerig coffee maker, fridge and microwave. The place was immaculately clean! We would only have hoped to have two bedside tables but there was just one. Parking was easy and just steps from the room. It felt safe and convenient to shopping and restaurants. We highly recommend staying here!"

"The front desk staff was extremely friendly and made us feel welcomed. This encourages us to visit again. Our room and all facilities including the hot tub were clean and comfortable. Parking near our room was easy. The surrounding residential neighborhood was quiet and appeared to be safe. The beach is a 5-minutes walk from the lodge. "Quaint, quiet little getaway! Staff were nice and room was clean. Close to the wharf and other attractions. We would stay again!"

"Receptionist old lady was useless. EV charger didn't work. Noisy toilets. Awful coffee... OK location, but expensive for what you get. Would not stay there again. Very disappointing."

"Check in was easy and the staff friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Son enjoyed the pool which was nice after long days at Laguna Seca. Close enough to fast food restaurants and grocery stores including some fantastic donuts at Monterey Donuts. Also being an easy drive to and from Laguna was great. If we are able to make the trip again next year we will strongly consider using El Castell again"
